Hi Folks,

We are a complex of 86 apartments and always have a lively general meeting.

We have a mix of nationalities.

Last year 3 of the German owners talked on each point for a very long time hence one point taking 1 1/2 hours to reach voting stage after translation even though they speak perfect English  in the complex. It seemed like this was deliberate.

This resulted in some owners loosing interest and leaving without giving their proxy vote to anyone. What also happened was that all the Agenda was not disccussed and we had reached 7pm with only a short break. This then allowed this small group to take control of the voting for the remaining points with their own votes and some proxy ones.

Can anyone tell me what powers the president or Administrators has over the amount of time a subject can be disccussed?

Can any owner stand up and say enough is enough lets vote?

Most owners are on a tight schedule and had return flights the next day so it was impractical to carry on the meeting the next day.

I would be grateful for any advise.

Hi & welcome. Can I suggest you post this again in Running a Community as people looking at community issues tend to go to that board. It's a very interesting board & much is discussed in there. We also have Presidents posting on EOS & their input is invaluable. Good luck

You're welcome. We're here to help, hopefully.

To others, to save 28sac missing important  info,  please post on 28sac's new thread now >> Community Meeting in the Running a Community board.

Can anyone tell me what powers the president or Administrators has over the amount of time a subject can be disccussed? President needs to run the meeting and moderate the times.

Can any owner stand up and say enough is enough lets vote? Of course yes. There is nothing in the Law which says  on the contrary.
