Over 2 years ago I bought with an English company selling for a Spanish developer.  We have gone past the completion date and still no planning consent.  I am seeking to get my deposit back but feel after listening to friends experiences that we are going to get delayed in the Spanish / English trap with the English company claiming contracts and money are in Spain and visa versa.  My contract states there is a bank guarantee but my paperwork is not complete on this issue.  I am not sure whether to look for a Spanish or English lawyer, it would be ideal to find someone with experience of both.  I know from reading here that Maria de Castro is a good Spanish lawyer who is well aware of the issues on my development and with the company concerned.  I just fear that the key to getting my money back ultimately lies with English law.  Does anyone have any advice.

Hello B Simkin,
I am sorry for you in this situation.
When we purchased in Spain, we used a UK Solicitor who specialises in buying property abroad.
We found them extremely good.
I will PM you with their details.
Not sure if you can read/reply on PM yet as don't know how "new" you are to the forum.
Have a look anywayand if there's a prob, reply on this thread.
Regards,

Can anyone help, please, preferably a lawyer!  We are moving to Spain in January.

A     My husband has his own watercolour web-based business from which we get a small income.  This is registered in the UK.

When we move, do we need to re-register it, or can it continue to be registered in the UK?

B    If he does the occasional painting holiday in Spain, will he have to pay Social Security (even though he won't earn enough!).

Any help gratefully received.

Donna
