Does anyone know for how long families who have no work or income are given any form of payment from the state?

A lot are here illegally and therefore have nothing, but depend on family. Having said that, there are surprising numbers of people totally alone.

As we go round with bags of food etc.on our charity work, we are so aware of unbelievable poverty and poor living conditions of increasing numbers of families. For many it seems a mere existence from day to day and yet they accept their lot in life as we would not in the UK with all the benefits available.

Thank you Nigel for that link. It explains why so many are living in poor housing if you can call some that at least in the areas away from the towns. Some landlords charge exorbitant rents for accomodation where we would hardly keep our animals.
