Failure by bank to pay gas bill direct debit

Just arrived at our apartment after last visit in April to find gas has been cut off because bill not paid. We have had utility bills for gas electricity and water paid by direct debit for seven years without any problem. Would appreciate any tips/advice on this before I contact the gas and bank on Monday. The outstanding bill was 12 euro

Did you comply with the need to register your passport or identity document and digital signature with your Bank before April 30?  If not, your account might have been blocked and no movement of funds can take place.  To unblock your account, you need to comply with this registration.  Once done, your bank should unblock your account but since the gas bill has been returned, the direct debit will not be made unless the gas company resends the bill.  You will probably need to pay the bill plus reconnecting charges, if any, through an express order to the Bank.
