Realise this has been covered previously on Forum but would appreciate some fresh input based on your own personal experiences/investigations.

Some background - we currently live in Australia & have comprehensive cover here. We intend to suspend this policy while away & insurance company have confirmed that we can reactivate this within 30 days of returning to OZ & it will cover any illnesses that eventuated while abroad or pre existing conditions. So, I suppose IDEALLY we require emergency cover while abroad plus cost of returning to OZ if something happens. So, the issues may be:

1) Do we opt for travel insurance &  if so what are the best options/companies in that regard ??

or

2) Do we take out health cover in Spain & if so what are the best companies/policies assuming we require adequate no frills cover ??

or

3) Anything else !!!

Many thanks in advance,

Harry

How long will you be in Spain?

Normally, as a non-resident, non-EU citizen, you wll have ZERO cover here. Just as I would have zero cover in Australia.

This is surely a case for your travel insurance? Extended cover policies are usually available (at a price).

We have EU & Australian passports plus have already secured the NIE.

Since we will be in Spain at least 12 months concur that travel insurance may be best option. Securing this in OZ is not particularly competitive & so just wondering if there may be better international options which anyone is aware of ???

Many Thanks,

Harry

Normally, insurance policies are only available to "residents", rather than to passport holders or being nationality based.

I am not sure in any event it work work out any cheaper than a long-term travel policy purchased at home. I would suggest shopping around a bit.
