Brittany Ferry Spanish Voyage Club

As my husband and I do 2 return ferry trips annually, we are thinking of joining the Brittany Ferries Voyage Club which costs £100 but promises savings of 'up to' 30%. I found that not all questions were answered on their website - e.g. whether, if I joined, would my husband be covered as well, or would I need to take out an Associate Membership also? I emailed them via their 'contact us' link and had a swift response saying that 'yes', both of us would be covered under the one membership, which was good news. However, in reply to the question of whether I'd qualify for full 30% discount on bookings over 10 days (as shown on website), I was told that the 30% was only on the actual ferry cost and not on the cabin part. My problem here is that I can't find a breakdown of costs when I get a quotation for a booking to try to ascertain how much savings I'd actually make, and whether it would in fact be worth spending £100 to join the club. Has anyone out there any ideas? Thanks in advance. BTW I have made further contact with BF and await their response, but I'd like some personal independent views also. Cheers.

In response to your questions re. the Brittany Ferry Voyage Club, if you haven't already solved the queries I can probably help clear up a few points.  I am a member and it took me ages to work out whether it would be cost effective or not, as my husband and I do the Portsmouth to Santander crossing twice a year too.  If you pick a random crossing as an example of your next trip and get a price online as a non-member, then give me the details and I will get a price for same using my membership number - that way you can compare the difference and see how much of a saving you would actually make.  The 30% isn't on the entire booking, and that's where we all get confused and don't make as much of a saving as we think.  The most cost effective way is to join yourself as the full member and get a friend who is in the same position to join as an associate member and split the cost each year, and they get the same discount as you. There is an extra cost for being an associate member, but when we worked it all out - the full member cost plus the associate member cost each year,  split in half, was worth doing and made us a decent saving each year.  It's very confusing, but if you want to know more then send me details of a crossing you think you may make and I will work it out for you, and dig out my details to let you know exact costings of joining + savings etc.  If you've already sorted it then happy sailing.  Meg
