Hi all,

We have friends that have a finca near us. They don't live here, just come when their kids are on holiday.

They asked me what the emergency number is. 112!. ''Yes'' they said, ''but do we need to dial 0034 112 from our UK mobiles?''

I couldn't answer that one, I don't know, but one of you lot will.

So does one need to dial 0034 112 or just 112 from a UK mobile when in spain?

Thanks, regards.

Febe

No code needed, and most mobiles will let you call the emergency number even if you have no credit or even no SIM card. What's more, they could dial 999 and still get emergency services. A while ago I witnessed a rather unpleasant incident and in my panic  I couldn't remember 112. For some strange reason I dialled 911 instead. Not a problem. Any of these will get you emergency services, and if you dial 112 in the UK it would work too as it's the EU standard emergency number.

 I can confirm that, Roberto.

You can dial 112 from any mobile, UK, Spanish or otherwise and you will get connected to the Emergency Services.  No need to dial 0034 or anything else.

I thought this thread was worth bring forward.

112 is the emergency telephone number in Spain (also works in UK and rest of Europe).  It is acceptable to call that number even if the situation does not approach the level one would require in in UK when calling 999.

On that service they have translators who in theory should be able to liaise with the service you require, mediical /fire/police etc- to assist you.

What are the functions of the different police services in Spain ?

There is a good explanation here:
