Hi,

I though I'd better post something about the telephone call we received from "Telefonica" yesterday to warn all EOS that there is currently a scam going on re phone/internet service from Telefonica.

Yesterday we received a phone call from "Telefonica", my Dad (who is Spanish) answered the phone as he is on holiday here at the moment.  The person from "Telefonica" said that from next month our internet/phone contract would be coming to an end and instead of paying €52 a month we would automatically switch to paying €75 a month UNLESS we wished to take up another new special offer where we would be paying €63 a month.  My Dad took the message and relayed it to me when I got home from work.

I was a bit puzzled as I had only taken out the contract back in November when my parents were last here so I asked my Dad to phone Telefonica again to check this as the bill stated that the €52 contract was for a year.  He phoned them today and they said that there is currently another company who is calling all of Telefonica's customers and trying this scam.  Telefonica have received thousands of calls from customers complaining about this but they can not do anything about it.

Be warned - this is a scam, they are NOT Telefonica and the company calling you is wanting to switch you to their contract from Telefonica.  If you receive a call telling you anything like this please check with Telefonica by calling them and don't let this unscrupulous company charge you more for something you are already getting cheaper.

Thanks,

Hi,

I've had a problem with telephone scam too, but with orange-es.  A few months ago I had a text message on my spanish mobile telling me  I owed money, followed by another text telling me I could use my credit card to pay and a telephone number to call.  This was repeated a couple of times.  As it's a pay as you go phone I didn't see how I could owe money bt went into the local orange shop where I was told this was a scam.  I'm still getting these text messages.
