When you rent a car ,do you check that you have Hi viz jackets(2) and traffic warning and an EU accident report form, because there are on the spot fines for no jackets and the signs and if the report was in Spanish how difficult would that be for you if you had an accident?

Hi,

We have used several different car hire companies but the only one we have had the Hi viz jackets included in the car was on our last visit,  we are out again on the 9th of June and have hired our car through Do You Spain who Noreen uses, we pick up our car at Auriga Crown Rent a car so will check it out as no one wants to pick up a fine yet alone have to try to fill in an accident form that is all in Spanish (God forbid we should need to). Thank for the info.

Please be aware that Auriga Crown now have  a desk in Almeria Airport & you no longer have to get the shuttle bus off airport. (Assuming you are flying in to Almeria of course!)

You should also check the insurance on the car covers the whole of your trip. The insurance documents are usually in the glove compartment. The Hi-Viz vests should also be within the body of the car as you can be fined for getting out of the car if you are not wearing one.

The warning triangles are normally in the boot, either in a container loose in the boot or strapped on to the boot lid, depending on the type of car.

Noreen

Hi Noreen,

we are flying to Murcia and I believe auriga cars are in the airport arrivals hall.  When you say check the insurance covers the whole trip are you saying there are exclusions , have never really gone into it that much as when the cover comes up on the quote the tick seem to be against all the boxes ! Look forward to meeting you on the 14th.

Regards,

Jayne & Alan

Hi Jayne & Alan

Apparently the common practice is for the insurance certificate to be stored in the glove compartment. A comment on the general forum suggests that you need to check this to ensure that the insurance certificate is valid for the whole of your rental.

Something else that may be of interest to car hirers is www.insurance4carhire.com. This insurance policy covers any excess that may become payable due to an accident or malicious damage. Basically the car hire company will charge your credit card & you claim teh amount back.

Any driver on the car hire agreement is covered as long as the policy holder is named on the agreement as well. Thankfully, we haven't had to use it yet but it saves having to take out the extra insurance from the car hire company & it pays for itself in just 1 or 2 trips.

Noreen

Thanks for your reply, very helpful as we have never had anything in our glove compartment, not even the car manual, will check this time and not leave without it.

Thanks Jayne & Alan

I have provided a link to print off the accident report form in English, take one with you .
Kenhttp://www.insurance.fr/files/Accident_Form.pdf   I would print off a few copies ,one for your-self ,one for the hire company and one for the other driver.

Remember after the accident .Risk assess the situation and make sure that you are in no further danger. Don the jacket in the car.Check that other road user is OK and render First Aid if required.Put the warning signs out and call the police and ambulance, and the  Fire Service if some-one is trapped or the car is on fire, the number you dial is112. Make sure you have the jacket on and signs out before police arrive ,even for just a small bump ,with no injuries.

Hi Ken

Thanks very much for the pdf, it is really useful.  Have saved it to use as and when, even though we hope that we will never need to print it more than once.

Regards
Lorna

Auriga Crown are the only hire company I have used in Murcia that provide the triangle and 1 hi viz vest. There is a separate sheet to the hire agreement that says you have received them, so make sure they are there before leaving or you could end up being charged for them.
