Hello Fellow Thalassians and Happy New Year

Need some tips from someone who's been there, seen it and done it.

Questions are:

  • How long does it take to drive to the resort?
  • Can you recommend a well priced and reasonably nice place to stay (I don't do basic) for 3 nights?
  • Which area has the best green/blue runs for me (the novice) and reds/blacks (rest of my family)?
  • Is there just the one Ski School or several in competition?

Tempted by the fab photos taken last April on www.sierranevada.com I'm going to give it a try at the same time of year

Many thanks in anticipation and see y'all by the pool

Hi Suzi Q

This is an extract from the main forum which you may find useful. There was also a website address for hotels www.Sierra-Nevada-Hotels.com

There was also a more recent post which gave information about what you need to have for your car e.g snow chains etc. If I can find it, I will post it here or it may be worth your while putting a post on the main forum yourself.

There are 45 runs of varying difficulty including a floodlit run for night time skiing. You could try contacting the Official Ski School - 0034 950 480 011

Hope you have a good time.

Noreen

Sierra Nevada Ski Resort Can be reached from Vera in around 21/2 hours. You follows signs for Granada. Before you hit the main city you stay on the ring road around Granada taking the exit Sierra Nevada/Monchil and its all sign posted from there. Its actually worth staying over either in the resort or close by and you can find a place in a double room between 60 and 120 euros. The Ski-ing and Snow boarding there is excellent and there are plenty of restaurants and bars with a Bavarian feel to the resort. I would however always check the weather the night before as it can sometimes be foggy and too windy for the lifts some days! Also it can get very busy at weekends with long queues for lift passes! There are plenty of places to hire equipment and lift passes cost around 20 euros daily for adults and 13 for children.

Hi All,

We have just got back from a trip to Thalassa today, the weather was really warm, mid 20s. We took a trip up to Sierra Nevada to do a couple of days Snowboarding. The first day the ski lifts were closed due to wind, so we spent the afternoon shopping in Granada (skiing would have been much cheaper!!). Well worth a trip up, it took about 3 hours to get there. Fantastic scenery most of the way.  The lift pass is 37 euros for full day, all the equipment hire places seemed to charge similar ammounts (24 euros for board & boots).

Many of the pistes were quite icy, especially the begginer slopes. No off piste action as all were iced over. However we had a great day snowboarding and would recommend the trip, especially as the next day we were basking in the sunshine back at Thalassa!

If you find the pistes at the top of the mountain icy, try the slopes lower down between Pradollano and the main ski lift drop off, they seem in better condition.

Also I would  call the ski resort before setting off to check the ski lifts are open, they will be able to let you know at 8am. Its a long way to go to find it all closed.

Have a great time,

Chloe.
