Hi all

I would like to hear from anyone who is due to complete on their apartment in the near future, who like me think they were misled when buying into Marina D'or.

Together with my brother, around 2004,we bought a total of 5 apartments  on the understanding that the facilities in and around Marina D'or, would be second to none.  In particular we liked the idea of 2 golf courses, a Sea World type Theme Park, Multiplex cinema etc etc.  All of these facilities were promised within 2 years, (from 2004) and would be in place by the time our apartments were built. This is what sold us on Marina D'or and is why we invested so heavily.

However, the reality is totally different, some time after we purchased, Marina D'or launched their Marina D'or Golf Resort, which totally changed the Resort and facilities that we had expected to be nearby our apartments. The golf courses for example are not now being built within the planned 2 years but more like 5 years from now and in a totally different location, which will be some 3-5 kilometers away from our apartments. We had expected our apartments to actually face the original golf course.

If you feel as I do, I would love to hear from you.  Without going into too much detail at this time, I feel that we have been mis sold by Marina D'or and we have a case for withdrawing from our contracts.

I have completed on mine but feel the urge to respond to your post.

I agree with you to some extent. I was sold Marina d'or through Agents and I just believed it was the agents that were sugarcoating it as is the practice now in this industry. It is true the Golf was presented as next to some devts but thinking about it now, it was just an expanse of area which they could claim extended upto the (new) site now.

I noticed not many people have replied to your post. I know that many people feel shortcircuited about the devt so I expected reply posts especially on a hot topic like this. (too hot to handle maybe :-))  I think with the general experience in Spain and most people feeling that with Marina dor especially, they entered the market at the tail end of it (for investment that is), they are all too happy to know that at least Marina dor is delivering on the services/amenities/facilities promised. I guess it is realisation that it could be worse. Marina dor looks like what was promised excepting the  hype, rental performance and Golf site - all used to suck us into buying into it.

With you buying 5 properties with your bro, I am assuming your motive was investmt. The market is not good right now and also quite competitive. What would matter to you most I guess is the preformance of the investmt. Holiday investmts generally (for me) are not that promising. Either the rents dont stack up or it is almost impossible to sell without offering a huge discount. I have to say Marina dor is an impressive devt with a lot of promise, though a bit far in the future as it should be , I'd say!.

It would be hard to hold the location of the golf against them as you are not likely to see such specific detailing on the contract. If you have it and you come up with good 'proof' , I'm on your side.

Currently I think it is difficult to get holiday rentals. At least there is an option to let to locals long term. Like I said- it could be worse.

I completed in March and have had nothing but problems - Im so gutted that I was talked into buying. In hindsight I was fed a whole load of BS by my salesman - on property prices, target dates for golf resort, the local airport,  the America's Cup effect, etc etc.

I have been told that my property is worth about 75% of what I paid for it - that's if I could sell - so with various fees and taxes I'm around 100K euros down.

I have tried to rent out this summer and had two rentals failed due to Marina D'or taking months to get my snag list done.

They still owe me 1000 Euros from last year for introducing a client to them - boy do I feel guilty about that

The problem is nobody seems to care, calls are not returned (that includes Marina D'or Directors), hardly anyone in resort the talks English and you get lied too over and over again.

I could go on for hours about just how cr*p Marina D'or is but shall leave it there for now.

Just received a phone call from my bank telling me I have a week to pay 3,000 euros in mortgage arrears. Next week my apartment and the contents will be repossesed and legal action will start against me. I was misled and I have spent a year trying to salvage the situation, 1200 euros in rent is all I have seen (under half of what I spent on the contents). I have tried to sell at 70% of purchase price but nobody is daft enough to buy now!

Apparently I wasn't mis-sold although there could have been some misrepresentation so the Spanish lawyers tell me!

you are right nothing came of it. The BBC got their solicitors onto it but they say we have no grounds unless we take a case up with our own solicitor but I can't afford that. The only suggestion I can make is to get any friends with websites to put a link on it to the bbc website where there is a video of the program you watched. apparently if there are enough links anyone typing Macanthony in google will see the video! It was also suggested we should sit outside travel shows where Macanthony find their clients and give people coming out free DVDs of the programme. This would make people think before putting a deposit down, however it is difficult for us to travel not being able to get out of our wheelchairs

Repossession Warning!

I have now had my property repossessed  and  the Spanish bank will take legal proceedings against me if they don't get the money  they expect when they auction  my  apartment. I am very worried as we could  loose our home in England if I am forced to pay months of mortgage interest. I  had received 1200 euros in rent for August but nothing else after completing in October 2005.

If anyone is having the same problems please contact me by sending a private message especially if  you were promised when signing that you would get rent or be able to sell  after a year.
