Aldea Associates are the solicitors....not the friendliest, trust me. And Recommended by Parador.

I will call them in a short while but last week they were adament that 4 weeks was not enough to sort the POA out.

When we did our POA admittedly we were in Spain,  but we signed the POA document in front of the notary when we did our wills.

It was not a very involved process - it was a bit of an afterthought.

I would go online and see what reference you can find for giving a POA to your solicitor in Spain.  Also, shouldn't Parador help you?

We bought through Medsea,  and solicitors are Martinez Abarco in Torrevieja - and both have been a great help and support.

Good luck to you!

Hi all

We have just got back after completing on Friday. The resort is looking fantastic and we are very pleased with our apartment. I'm a keen golfer and had a good look around. The course has some great looking holes that should provide a good challenge for golfers of all standards.

There were only a few minor cosmetic issues for the snagging list and I understand most people are finding the same.

Everyone from Polaris was very helpful and efficient. In our firsty 2 days we managed to sort NIE numbers, snagging, completion and furniture order, wich allowed us to enjoy the 19 degrees of sun on our final day.

The whole process is straight forward and painless if you plan your trip in advance. Some simple common sense tips :-

1) Measure your plans in advance so you have an idea of furniture e.g. we worked out a corner sofa would make best use of space. The scaled plans turned out to be very accurate.

2) Sort out anything you can in advance e.g. we met people completing who still hadn't arranged insurance.

3) Take a TOM TOM with you. We found Sat Nav was great for finding Notary, furniture shops etc.

4) Use a solicitor ( in our opinion ). Our cost approx 970 euros but was worth it for continued advice and ensuring the Notary sign-up was easy. They may also sort the Notary fees and land registry cheaper for you.

5) Use a snagger ( in our opinion ). Its good to have someone helping you with this who has experience and can follow up snags on your behalf.

6) Don't forget tape measures etc and torch.

7) Be happy unless you have real issues. There are some people who always see the cup half empty!

The resort has the potential to be fantastic if Polaris deliver on the facilities.

cheers

Steve

Aj&Dee

My solicitor emailed me my POA here in the UK.

I took it to a local Notary in the UK and they gave it an international stamp, i returned it to Spanish solictor and they then had my POA.

Approx cost of UK notary £100.

It's not the granting of the POA that's the problem it's the fact that it must be notarised.  For us we had to go to the Notary's office and sign in his presence (in Spain)

The suggestion below about using one in the UK to then prove to your solicitors in Spain may be the only way to go.  We too use Aldea.

We too did it in the UK and it cost £98. No hassles, our solicitor in Spain sent over the original document and we went to a local notary in the UK.

On the subject of POA we could also get all documentation filled in here in Ireland and get it stamped by the relevant authorities and then send all over top our Spanish solicitor. Just on the subject of kitting out our apartment, it seems hard to know what to do. I have been contacted by Murcia furniture and they seem to have some good packages available and they fit all lights etc for you. I dont know how much money is to be saved by buying yourself. Has anyone any advise. Another thing I am right in thinking we need to get a fridge, I had forgotten that small detail!!! Might just be needed.

Thanks

Kevin

Are you planning to go over and look at various furniture stores?  We found that the packs were never quite right for us,  and so in the end picked some pieces that we liked,  kept it to the minimum (so that we could add to it in due course - in case there was just too much furniture),  and went with Inside Right Espana in the end, who priced just the furniture we liked.  We looked at DFS - and several others too (can't remember the names of all of them) but were happiest with Inside Right.  Yes you do need a fridge,  and we're having a washing machine too.

All the companies seem to say that they will clean, install, and fit lights etc - as part of the price.   My husband wants to be there when it's all put in,   rather than leaving it in the hands of key holders.  Lighting is the only thing we can't decide on,  and want to shop around a bit more for - however we can't move stuff in until there are lights in place (chicken and egg really!).

We are so happy with everything, and are really positive.  Town Centre is the only sticking point at the mo'

Don't know what to do Maggie. Timeis a big issue at the minute. Did you find that you saved mony by shopping yourselves? If I thought that we would save a few hundred then yes I would go and shop myself. I would love for my wife and I to do the shop together but with 2 kids, 3 & 1, that would not be very easily done. Hard to know what to do really but saving a few quid would be nice.

I'm not sure that we saved much money,  because we want to furnish the apartment to a good standard,  however we were able to go over and complete,  and spend 3 more days looking around at furniture,  meeting with potential key holders,  and generally getting a feel for the place.  It must be very difficult with 2 young children,  but - the furniture is a big expense and we wanted to get it right - could be an expensive mistake if you end up with the wrong stuff.  Also,  we spent ages after completion measuring everything up,  so we could work out what to fit where - as on the plans it's not so easy to visualise.    For example,  we cut down on the size of the dining table, because we're going to put a breakfast bar in the kitchen - so the dining table won't be so important.  We haven't chosen coffee table / lamp table yet - until we see how much space the furniture all takes up,  and we've gone with only one bedside table in each bedroom - so we can add another one or choose a mirror with storage underneath later on.  We're getting all linens etc from Yorkshire Linens - as they have such a massive choice....  so it goes on!

Will you be completing with POA,  so weren't planning to visit?

Good luck anyway!

Maggie

Yes our solicitor is completing next week for us. I know it is a big dicission and that is why I decided to ask on here for other peoples points of view. Thanks for the useful tips. You are of course right in that you don't want a place full of furniture and no room to move around. Maybe I might get some time early in the new year. Thanks again Maggie.

We also have 2 young children ( 3& 5 ) so decided on the easy option of buying a furniture pack. We looked at 4 different furniture specialists and ended up using Inside Right . Some others had bigger ranges in their showroom but the furniture was modern and to our liking and we think very good value. We have basically bought nearly everything from them beds down to knifes and forks! I think they do give you a good discount for buying the whole package and we should be able to walk straight into our apartment and start using it. They have also been very helpful so far.

Looking at the prices in the furniture and electrical shops then I think it would have cost us quite a bit more to buy things seperately. You could probably cheaper if you went to Ikea but we didn't want the hassle of anymore shopping around and certainly not building and installing. My tools won't be going out to Spain!

cheers

They are based on an industrial estate just before you reach La Torre ( in between PW head office and La Torre, very close close to the latter ). We have been dealing with Gareth who has been very helpful.

You take the Roldan / Balsicas turn-off the motorway,  go up over the bridge towards Roldan and the Polignos Industrial entry is just of the first or second roundabout.  We drove around the industrial estate for about 10 minutes before we found it (hopeless!) - but it's a big enough corner showroom.   We actually had lunch twice in the bar on the right as you go into the industrial estate - good tapas and very spanish - very reasonable.

Inside Right gave us a 10% discount quite easily - final cost about €8000. We dealt with Debbie - mad Scottish lass!

Good luck to all!

Maggie,
If you're still looking for lights, try www.ilucom.com.  Sami runs the shop and they have a good selection.  They're installing for me on 8th Jan.  They are located on the road from Los Alcazares to Torre Pacheco.

Kevin,
If you can shop around, you may find it beneficial.  I would recommend Art of Living in Spain/Murcia Furniture (near Mosa Trajectum) and DFS (San Javier).

Good selection in both places.  We ordered on 16th Nov and they're both delivering in early Jan - once the lights are in !!!.

Hope this helps.
Harry
