I am considering buying on the SJG site at Santa Ana, but have a concern. I am anticipating retiring there and have been checking the web to get an idea about the weather during the winter months. It would appear that the average dec/jan temp is around 4°C as against around 12°C around Torrevieja. Can anyone enlighten me on this. Is it cold but sunny?

Many thanks

Hi Golfman,

Yes you are right it can get cold in the Winter in Jumilla, mainly because you are 2000 feet above sea level and with mostly clear skys doesn't help.    It also snows there on occasions, but even this can be a welcome bonus.  For a better opinion though you would have to ask those that live there.

However, there are benefits to this, the cold can kill off many of the bugs that exist elsewhere all year round, plus you get really nice sunny days, take a look at the photos taken in January and February.

More to the point, if its really cold you only need drive an hour to the coast to warm up again. ;))  and at least you don't have to suffer the 8 months of winter from October to May as we do in the UK.  Even the summer in the UK amounted to a week in April and a couple of days so far in August.  So in my book it's still a no brainer.

Steve.

Hi Golfman,

We currently live in La Manga and it can get cold here on the coast as well during the winter but it only lasts for a few days then back to nicer weather.

Have been to jumilla several times since purchasing on Santa Ana and twe have found that on leaving  la Manga and travelling to Jumilla the weather never seems to be that much different .

While there in Feb beautiful blue skies and warm weather and been there in March while it has been pouring with rain and bitterly cold, but it's amazing how different the scenery changes with the weather conditions. No matter the weather it looks beautiful and can't wait to move there.

As regards to Torrevieja the traffic would put me off never mind the weather.

Hope this helps.

Arlene

Can I just add when we bought there was snow on the ground I was in sandals and it did'nt seem that cold that was end of Jan a couple of years ago now

I am sure I am right in saying this but Linda Needham will put me right if not it does get cold on an evening between Nov and March

You do need some heating and a coat although the days i think are quite nice anyway I don't care whatever the weather it must be better than the UK

John and I have visited Jumilla in November and March, and though it was a bit windy, the sky was blue and it was so much better than being in the UK that we didn't hesitate to buy there!  We know it can get cold in the winter months, so we will be having heating installed, however it will still be so beautiful in Santa Ana that we will wrap up and get outside to enjoy the winter sunshine and the stunning scenery.  It's all a matter of choice, but I would far rather retire in Santa Ana than in Torrevieja.  I also understand that although it can get very hot in summer, the humidity is less than on the coast, which to me is a plus factor.

Have a look at previous posts on this thread, as I am sure Linda Needham put something on about the weather.  Shie is our resident expert!

Sue

Thanks all for your quick replies. It does seem like there is a community spirit among the Santa Ana purchasers!

I guess the best thing to do is make a visit, trouble is I am looking to buy before the winter! Decisions! decisions! Who said retirement was easy!

Steve - I take your point about the UK, its been another cracking summer - not

Arlene - Wow leaving La Manga, I thought it was a veritable paradise there!

Auntielinda ( I prefer that to GAL!) - I like your positive dont care attitude! A spark of good ol' Britishness I fancy. Always nice to see. A part of me would probably like the changing of the seasons a little, just not toooo much cold!

Sue - A bit windy, that will make the golf a bit more interesting! You say that you have arranged to have heating installed, was that through the San Jose Group? Is it central heating your having done? It seems to me to be a sensible thing to do. Pardon me for asking but was that costly to have as an extra?

Thanks again everybody for your helpful responses

By the way any of you guys golfers?

Regards

Alec

Hi, if it helps we have gone for the Natural Gas Central Heating installed by SJ during the build at a cost of 3,500 Euros, I understand that it is a combination boiler that will also provide the hot water.

Hi Golfman

We have already met lots of other buyers and can assure you that you will have some very nice neighbours it you buy at Santa Ana!  We had a quote from San Jose for gas central heating in every room for a 2 bedroom Azucena.  It was 3,700 euros, however we don't think we will need radiators in all the rooms so have asked for another quote.

You really must visit Santa Ana and Jumilla before deciding.  As soon as we went there, we made up our minds!

We don't play golf but we run, so you will see us running round the golf course and then no doubt having post-run refreshments in the clubhouse!

Sue

PS Just seen Gary's quote before posting this.  Did you get the discount when you ordered it and when did you get your quote?

Hi Alec

I intend to live there full time and there are many forms of heating send me a pm and I will send you the info about bio fires which is what I have gone for with back up low energy radiators

I work on the assumption that I NEVER heat my bedroom here so why pay for what you won't use (That's the Yorkshire in me)

Ask Linda Needham about heating before you spend your hard earned I am sure she has posted that she has low energy radiators and as she has been in Jumilla 6 years I'm taking her advice the total cost of this will be half that of C/H though I must stress it is personal choice. As I also intend to have a solar panel for my hot water that comes in around 1500 euros butI won't have the electricity bills the majority will have

hope this helps as for auntie linda the Gal is my shortening of Great Auntie Linda

Linda
