 Hi Des,

The TV system here is cable ( DBV-C ) so you will need either a TV with a built-in DVB-C tuner or a seperate tuner box if it hasn't.

If you have not got your TV yet then that's the thing to look for, Euronics and Camposol plus Media Mart etc all have these TV's.

Dare I ask if anyone would be bold enough to name the manufacturer/model of an Integrated DVB-C TV that they're happy with or is it best to purchase a separate tuner box. It's just that I've been looking online and its a minefield out there - confused . com.........

Bought a 32 inch Samsung about 3 years ago from Saturn in Thader shopping centre next to Ikea Murcia. Not had any problems with it and get all UK channels. Not sure which model it is and we knew it had built in digital tuner when we purchased but didn't realise that it was the DVB-C type which enables us to receive the channels transmited through the TV system. Just make sure that the inbuilt digital tuner is not the more usual DVB-T type.

Thanks Chesney, much appreciated.
I'm only familiar with Freesat and Sky so have no experience buying Calendar TVs. Knowing that I need to stick with DVB-C rather than 'T' is a big help as most of those I was looking at or seem more popular seem to be the latter 'T' version.
Best regards
Gabe

My neighbour bought an LG   LED  32LV2500 last year that has a built in cable tuner. It was just luck that it had one as there was no information stating it had one. I believe they bought it from Worten but i would think the other stores will have it as well. There is no information on the tv that actually states it is DVB -C. This model also has DVB-T.

Thanks Chris

To make it even more confusing it seems you can only get some of these particular models in Europe so I guess I'll stop wasting my time trying to shop online and simply turn up at a store in Murcia!

Hi Des

We originally bought a TV that needed a Polaris World recommended digi box with it to get British Channels so when we wanted another TV we just used Euronics on Camposol as Phil has already mentioned. They are local (so gives business to the locals), very helpful so will explain all the different models for you, and will deliver it and set it up for you.

Another important fact is the customer service, honesty and the friendliness of the staff at Euronics. If you have a problem they are on hand to come and fix it and if a replacement is needed or it needs sending off for a repair then they will deal with it for you. This has never happened to us but you can get a faulty product even from the most reputable supplier, and their twin son who lives in Murcia and speaks fluent Spanish drops off and picks up any electrical item that has to go there for repair. We weighed up the fuel costs to go on a return trip to Murcia if there was a problem down the line, as well as the headache of the language barrier as potential hassle that we didn't want. Their prices are not bad either so we always go their first for any major electrical purchase.

Good luck in your choice, and enjoy yourself on Condado.

Bee

Hi Des

Glad that I could help and hope that you enjoy the TV and resort and I'll be paying Euronics a visit again soon for more things. It's also great to hear back from someone who has been happy with some advice that been given with the best of intentions as most times we never know if our suggestions were even used.

I think that it is very important to try help each other out as we are in a distant place where the customs and language are different and it can get a bit over whelming at times and to emphasise any good service or product on this website as we are so quick to be negative about things. Four more helpful companies that I have dealt with are Apollo Air, Kevin's Flyscreens, James Etherington the electrician (lives on Condado and now has opened the gym there) and Furniture Plus in Mazarron so maybe I should start a new thread Des.

All the best

Bee

Hi Des

It sounds as if you have good people there, CDA and Steve at Apollo. I'll just miss you by a week at Condado but it would be great to see you at another time so just pm me when you are over.

When you have time visit some of the monastries and the Guns at Mazarron, you need a head for heights but well worth a visit.

I forgot to mention Gregory at cheap car rentals who lives on site, he has had to increase his prices as he was far too cheap and hardly making a living, but he will pick up and drop off at the airport so takes the stress off you. His cars are older but he provides kids car seats free and no hidden costs also he is a great guy and will go out of his way to help.

I'm really sorry if I've missed anyone else as there are a lot of good people trying to work together to make Condado better and you can definitely see the difference in the last couple of years.

All the best

Bee
