I have just bought and insured a car in spain.

its a citroen c3 2006 56k on clock 1.1 petrol 4500 euros from torrecar torrevieja who still have a few left if your quick

i have checked insurance with direct line and through ibex

ibex were slightly cheaper 349 euros fully comp incl breakdown and glass cover

i went into the local office and everything was explained in english and i walked out with my green card and all cover docs.

if you go through direct line you may get them sometime in 2011 through the wonderful spanish postal system.

now you can see how easy my choice was

pm me for a local  contact number if interested

Hi there

Buying and insuring a car in Spain is very easy. Most main dealers have english speaking staff and car hire companies sell off unwanted stock. There are also English 2nd hand dealers around. They will all deal with the paperwork for customers so there should be no problems.

Insurance varies between companies and we ring around before renewal dates just as we did in UK. At present we are back with Linea Directa as they were cheaper than Ibex renewal quote last year. Never had any problems with receipt of paperwork through the post and they also send copies via email.

I think the prices for cars is far too high. I cannot imagine how a Spanish person is able to afford one. I wonder if one went inland would prices be more reasonable? Kevin

Hi Kevin

Cars are much more expensive here. My OH did lots of research before buying our latest vehicle and he found they were cheaper in Madrid and Barcelona but decided it was too far to travel just to look at a car.

Spanish peopole seem to have no trouble affording cars, I have never seen as many BMWs and Mercs as in Murcia.

Hi  all

We went over last Sept. and between then and Sept. 2010 we hope to spend about 34/36 weeks. As car hire prices have got a pit pricey, we figured it would be as cheap to buy a car. We purchased a Dec. 2004 KIA RIO for €4700 whcih is what roughly what it would have cost for the length of time we hope to stay over next year. We purchased from "Specialist Vehicles" over on the strip in La Manga. It was still going after 10 weeks before we came home this time. Insurance for €470 from a local agent. We are quiet happy with our deal and if anybody intends to spend more than 6 months in Spain its the way to go.

Fred

Sorry I dont understand, when people say that they cany understand, how that people in Spain cant afford to buy cars. This is not a third world country that all the people work in bars.

When you bought your property did you use a solicitor? Yes, you did and they earn good money.

So please stop assuming they dont earn a good wage.

Have a good Christmas.

I agree Spain is not a third world country. However, wages are roughly 50% of those in the UK and cars are considerably more expensive. They must spend a very large percentage of their income on running a car! It was just an observation on my part. It was not intended to be anything other than a comment. I'm sorry you took it another way. I just asked if one went away from the coast would cars be cheaper where there is less of an influence from overseas buyers.

Try and enjoy your Christmas.

Kevin
