Anyone who is a resident of Spain, has by law, to reregister his UK vehicle onto Spanish registration. If, being a certain type of vehicle, it cannot be reregistered, then either it cannot be brought into Spain or if here, scrapped. Why then do Insurance agents offer to insure these cars, which are illegal? Apparently they do not ask questions which would clarify the situation, such as :
Are you a resident? If not, you should insure you car in the UK.
Do you live here permanently, if so, why are you not a resident (by that I mean registered at the police station, not the old type residencia) If you are not, you and the car are illegal in Spain.
Then the agent should say: I cannot insure your UK plated car as it is illegal in Spain. Reregister it and you can insure it. If this process is not undertaken, and the car is insured, then surely the agent is complicit in an illegal act?
Would insurance agents please comment on this?
