i know i keep banging on about this but has anybody thought any more about tv?  i have arranged an engineer to come out on monday and they are going to assess the situation and try to install there and then. Juan has told me that the lady next door is doing something about it too, although it is not very clear what he is saying so i've arranged to see him monday morning at the apt.

At what stage does the community come in i wonder as, if it is going to be all year until we are established as some sort of a community, then i want to go ahead and put a dish up.  On the roof is my first call with access points for others to use and it seems possible after speaking to juan but i'll know for sure next week.   If it turns out that i have to have it on balcony i promise i will remove it just as soon as people start moving in and something more communal is available.  Does anybody have an objection to that or a suggestion as to what they are doing? i don't want to upset anybody and i wouldn't have any objection to anybody else doing it but this is my fourth visit and this time i am staying a few more weeks so a tv in the background would be nice.  After all, it is supposed to be home from home.

what do you think about it?

I haven't completed but here's my ten penneths worth!!!. First, I am glad you are settling in..good luck to you...Personally, I think a load of sateliite dishes will look really unsightly and devalue the look of the development. Are you absolutely clear about what is on the roof..is there a dish?..what can you get on it?...is every apartment cabled...?

I can fully understand the need for a tv with sky etc to make it a home from home but many individual dishes are unsightly. I have no idea what the satelite situation is in the apartments....what about asking the developer?

regards

steve

I am still waiting for my apartment to complete, however i agree the last thing i would want is no uk tv. ( even though that sounds sad ).

On the other hand it would not be a classy look if it was to catch on and they started appearing outside different balconies, this is not much help but now maybe other people will share there views with you.

Thanks

Tony

can i just clear up the point that if i had to, and i mean if i had to, the dish would be within my balony and not very imposing.   there is no dish on the roof as yet that will pick up satellite. either we have to share dishes with points for up to 4 apts on the roof or we have one big communal dish but i cannot do anything about this at the moment until more people are on.  i am sure the others are considering what they want (the ones completed i mean).  I have checked over and over and i re-emphasize that it would be only temporary until a communal or more suitable connection is available.    i suppose this is one of the disadvantages of being first in.  a year is a long time when you are out there with no tv and i also would not like satellite central around the development.

I have no problem with you sorting out your home entertainment. Push for the dish on the roof rather than the balcony.  You may find that you are given a 'Cock and Bull' story as to why it cannot go on the roof, this is only because it is a lot easier for them to place it on your balcony than the roof.  If you tell them the roof or no sale, you will see how quick the dish appears up there.

Go up onto your roof your will find a cupboard housing all the outlets for each apartment, bascially your apartment is being fed from that board what you need to do is 'live' it up, you may find that the dish already serving your apartment supplied by the developer will do the job if realigned, after all a dish is a dish, make sure that you have your viewing card ie sky or freeview.

Flooding the market in Spain is a new design satelitte receiver.  These receivers have a built in CAM which is capable of decoding the sky card or a free to view card.  The new receivers allow you to access all of the channels including premium channels as long as you insert a viewing card with the relevant subscription package.  People who bring their Sky cards from the UK cannot view the premium channels (Sky Sports & Sky Movies) when they insert the card into a different Sky Digi-Box. They receive the message “This is the wrong card for this set top box”.  These receivers allow you to insert your existing Sky card from the UK and benefi t from all of the channels that you get at home.  There are various makes of these receivers, prices and performance vary accordingly. They are manufactured by independent companies and are not authorized by Sky.  There are businesses in the Duquesa area that can do this for you, I have tel nos if you want?  Don't know if I am allowed to post them here so PM me and I will pass them on.

So initally you will require a receiver and TV (hopefully your 42" will be ready and waiting for you!), the dish already on the roof with any luck can do the job, bring you card from home...then put your feet up and relax!
