Hi Everybody,

I am just throwing this open for constructive comments.

See the previous postings re what cannot be done.

Do we really want every Tom, Dick, Harry, Jose, Pepi or Amed wandering round the complex and our homes uninvited and taking what they fancy.

Clearly something needs to be done about the "open access" policy currently operating at the complex. Access needs to be restricted to those that have the right to be there either by OWNERSHIP or INVITATION or LEGITIMATE BUSINESS at an owners specific bequest.

I accept that you cannot stop a determined criminal who has made his mind up to commit a crime but are we dealing with such people? My impression is that what we are talking about is simply people suspecting that there are easy pickings to be had and they are looking for their share.

LETS PUT A STOP TO THIS HERE AND NOW.

I know Rob is doing all that he thinks he can but WE as a community need to support his efforts and get behind him to resolve the problems.

Opportunistic crimes occur because we let them. Let us put into place a  scheme for security backed up by a system understood by all that is followed without fail by everyone.

IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WITH SECURITY EXPERIENCE THAT IS ABLE TO PASS ON TO ROB WHAT THEY KNOW? I AM SURE HE WOULD WELCOME A VOICE OF EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE.

The nonsense with unfettered access to the the apartments from the garage is stupid and must be stopped.

Surely there are funds in the community pot to pay for better security - if there is not should we all be paying a little bit more for this?

Regards, Malcolm & Linda

HI

Thanks for your support with this. It is really difficult to know where to turn to make sure that this stops happening.

According to the police however, the burglaries are being done by professionals and not just opportunists so it may well be that whatever we do we will still have the problem.

We agree that we need some sort of security system but it's going to be almost impossible to ensure that whatever system we use is effective while there are so many people renting. Trying to get through to visitors that the doors must be kept closed at all time is like banging your head against a brick wall. They don't seem to realise the seriousness of it.

Rob has already had a locksmith put a lock on the door to the roof so there is now no access via that route unless someone gets onto the roof  via a flat.

One suggestion we would like to make is that we permanently lock 2 of the entrance doors. One door is much easier to control. I know it would be an inconvenience to all of us but surely that's better than being robbed. This is open to debate by everyone. Your thoughts please.

regards

Rob & Doreen

Hi There,

Having just spent 3 weeks at our apartment we did notice that the door to the stairs was always left open even though we ourselves closed it and also put a notice on the doors. Could the doors be made to swing back after some one has gone through them . I know Rob is doing that on the outside doors .

One thought we have had re the garage - is to stop the lift going to the garage , thus sealing off that entry . Also could the doors at the top of the basement stairs be changed to glass doors with a tool to break the glass, in case of fire. The doors could then be locked and the fire doors at the bottom of the stairs be unlocked.  We are not sure if it's viable , but a thought- what do other people think.

Doreen yes to lock two outside doors sounds good , if people generally agree. Like everything else it'll only help if people always shut the inside doors

Kind Regards

Elaine and Gary

Hi Doreen and all at Mirador There are some good ideas so far thats what we need then Rob and Doreen can see which can be imployed with in the health and safety Laws etc, l think locking all the outside entrance doors except the main  one by the letter boxes (as the post has to be delivered is a great idea and easier to keep an eye on,another benifit is its shorter to walk around the pool to your apartments than walking all round the outside of the building.Regards Pat.

Hi

Sorry, forgot to mention that we're also getting a quote for self closures on all the main stairwell doors.

Hi All

Sorry I have not been active on the site recently. I have read the posts though and I am happy to agree that the main door by the post boxes be kept unlocked and the others locked, but I am not clear as to how this would work? Wouldn't those people with keys still be able to unlock the other doors and then leave them unlocked?

I think the glass fire door at the top of the basement stairs is a good idea. How about installing a door with a keypad security lock and only giving the access code to those who have a garage or a storeroom (I don't have either and I don't see that I have any need to access the basement). Perhaps this type of fitting could be applied to the lift door in the basement, whereby only those with access codes could get into the lift from the garage?

Self-closures on the main stairwell doors is a great idea - that will stop even the laziest of people being able to leave them open!

When we were there in July, we had the same problem with people leaving the door to the stairwell open - even though our block was one of the first ones targeted by the burglars. Even after we had the communal meeting, that same day, people were leaving the doors open!! It is very frustrating but difficult to stop as I never actually managed to see anybody doing it.

Any help that we can give, we will - it is not a nice experience being burgled and I wouldn't want anyone else to go through it so I am willing to do whatever it takes.

Best wishes

Sandra and Paul

Hi Sandra and Paul and all at Mirador yes i think that is agreat idea having coded key locks on the basement doors and the lifts from the garage along with the other mearures would go along way to making the place more secure, after all guests dont need to use the garage  or store rooms (normally) l had the same problem with the stair door every time l came in or out of my apartment it was open and l shut it when l went out and lo and behold when l got back it was open again l to never seen anyone doing it perhaps we have a door ghost. Regard Pat

I also think digital locks on basement & stairwell doors are a great idea. To conform to local health & safety regulations they may have all to be coded the same but this should not prove to be a problem as only residents will have the code. I have digital locks on some doors at work & they have proved to be both secure & reliable. Also relatively inexpensive & easily fit. We dont want Mirador to look or feel like a prison. Weak spots in security need to be identified & solved. Digital locks on already mentioned doors & door closers on the others i think will go a long way toward reducing our problem.

Best regards to all.

See you in October.

Ian.
