Hi

Could anyone give me dates for the festivals over Easter In Almoradi? My daughter and her boyfriend are going today and she would like to watch the parades etc. Also, can you tell me which days are public holidays and does this mean everything will be closed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sandra

Dear Jacqui

Having read your post and also having just returned from Mirador on Monday after a weekend break, I wondered if this energy saving exercise is also affecting the street lighting on the road where the cars are parked - as they were not working when we were there and it is extremely dark out there?

I agree that this energy saving is probably the most sensible route to go down. It is rather worrying that the minority rather than the majority apear to be paying their community fees (I know that this is largely down to the builder who has not sold many of his properties and won't/can't pay the community fees) and this is having such a negative effect on the community. Does anyone know what the chances of us being completely 'cut-off' by the utiity companies are and also are we likely to get to a situation where we cannot pay for the upkeep of the pool etc?

I agree that it seems a waste of time to call a meeting if you are planning to stand down Jacqui. I think it is a shame that it is such a thankless task - we did have a vote once to give the President a small 'income' for doing the job and to cover his/her admin costs and for some strange reason it was agreed on about 50 euros a month - hardly an incentive and in my opinon a bit of an insult!

I think we maybe all feeling  deflated what with the economic situation in both Spain and everywhere else, but it would be nice if we could somehow find a way to 'pull together' to find a way out of a bad situation.

Best wishes

Sandra & Paul

Hi everyone

Have just come across this thread and was wondering if anyone other than me is wondering what can be done about all these bloody earthquakes!! I am in London, but we were in our apartment in Almoradi on 6 August. I have never been so scared and unitl then I thought I was quite tough!! It is a weird sensation and not one I am hoping to have to experience again. My 13 year old son says he doesn't want to go to Spain again ever!!

I don't suppose they have any way of predicting when tremors will happen but it would be handy if they could then I could plan my trips accordingly! Does anyone know if general insurance covers earthquake damage? I didn't think to check my policy for it!

Hi All

Sorry I have not been active on the site recently. I have read the posts though and I am happy to agree that the main door by the post boxes be kept unlocked and the others locked, but I am not clear as to how this would work? Wouldn't those people with keys still be able to unlock the other doors and then leave them unlocked?

I think the glass fire door at the top of the basement stairs is a good idea. How about installing a door with a keypad security lock and only giving the access code to those who have a garage or a storeroom (I don't have either and I don't see that I have any need to access the basement). Perhaps this type of fitting could be applied to the lift door in the basement, whereby only those with access codes could get into the lift from the garage?

Self-closures on the main stairwell doors is a great idea - that will stop even the laziest of people being able to leave them open!

When we were there in July, we had the same problem with people leaving the door to the stairwell open - even though our block was one of the first ones targeted by the burglars. Even after we had the communal meeting, that same day, people were leaving the doors open!! It is very frustrating but difficult to stop as I never actually managed to see anybody doing it.

Any help that we can give, we will - it is not a nice experience being burgled and I wouldn't want anyone else to go through it so I am willing to do whatever it takes.

Best wishes

Sandra and Paul

Hi everyone

We were one of the unlucky ones who were broken into. Luckily (for want of a better word) we arrived in Spain on Friday 20th July, two days or so after it happened. They had got in via the front door by 'jemmying' the lock. When we had a new lock put in, the fitter noticed that we had a vital bit of the door lock missing. It is the bit that the actual lock goes into and it is a simple metal box that sits in the door frame. This would have made it very difficult for the thieves to ;jemmy' the wood as it is a solid piece of metal. Please everyone check your door locks and make sure that you have this piece fitted. I know that Sue who was also broken into did not have this piece either? I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but it would be interesting to know if there is a any link between all those who were broken into. If it turns out that all had this piece of equipment missing, how did the thieves know who to target?

Thankfully, after 10 days of not being able to sleep properly, we finally had a grill put on the front door and I have to say it looks rather nice and I slept a whole lot better after that. Thanks to Rob and his friend Malcolm for helping us out (as usual Rob!!) we really wouldn't have known where to begin to get things sorted.

Although this was quite upsetting and did not make for a good start to our holiday, we still managed to have a lovely time and the Almoradi festival was amazing - definately worth seeing.

Best wishes

Sandra
