HI GOLFERS

I PLAYED A GAME OF GOLF THE OTHER DAY (18 HOLE) MOST OF THE HOLES WAS A PAR 3/4

AND MY SCORE WAS 88 (DONT LAUGH) ONLY NEW BOY.....

SO CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT WOULD BE MY HANDY-CAP GOING ON THAT SCORE PLEASE...OR DOSE'NT IT WORK LIKE THAT.....

Your h/c would be 28, that is the highest you can have because you went round in 88 on a par 54 thats 34 over.

Saying that it is still a good score for your first time, keep it up I'm sure your h/c will come down very quickly. You will have to start playing stapleford rules to get your h/c right, but I'm sure it will all be done for you when we all join S/G society.

There should be lots of competitions once S/G is up and running, Captains Cup, Vice Captains, Secretary, Monthly Medals, Playing other Golf Clubs in the area, Singles, Pair, Fours, Mixed Pairs & Mixed Fours Etc.

Plus just going out with the rest of the Guys & Ladies on Sierra golf. Have a look at Stapleford rules on the web just to give you an idea.

Nice go at first game of golf, as Tony says, good first time score, don't worry about your handicap, it will  be based on your first 3 cards submitted to the Handicap Secretary when we start playing at Sierra  Golf.

No doubt, we will play to Stableford rules at first until we settle down, and then probably alternate the games between strokeplay & stableford, which is what we do at Ellesmere Port Golf Club. The reason we do this is because it gives the higher handicap player an equal chance - in stroke play, a really bad, bad, bad hole will destroy any chance of winning, but, in stableford, you can write it off and still win. Stableford, by the way, was invented and used at Wallasey Golf club by Frank Stableford, a club player, who saw the problems of stroke play with higher handicap players, I've played there many times, a links course and a good test of golf (lts only 4 miles from where I live).

Enough of that, don't worry about bying the beer at our first game, we'll nip round to Erics Tavern and get it for free!!!!!!!!!! (Hey, Tony, I'll give you a knock - might as well find out how far it is from where we are - possibly within crawling distance).

Rob, keep playing like that and you'll be a great partner in a doubles competition!!

STABLEFORD SCORING SYSTEM FORMAT

The Stableford system of scoring was invented in 1931 by Dr. Frank Stableford of the Wallasey & Royal Liverpool Golf Clubs and the first competition under Stableford Rules was played on 16 May 1932 at Wallasey.

Each player or side plays against the par of each hole and receives points according to how he scores in relation to par.

The scoring system is as follows:

(It would be very unlikely that anyone would score more than 4 under par, though from a high handicap this is possible).

The score is the nett score for each hole dependent on the player's handicap. The normal allowance under Stableford rule is 7/8ths of the lowest club handicap though it is becoming common practice for players to receive their full handicap allowance.

The nett score is calculated by taking strokes at the appropriate hole using the stroke index shown on the card.

Whereas medal play requires you to complete every hole, Stableford is a score by hole, so that if you take more than 2 over par nett at the first, you can pick your ball up and go to the second hole and start again.

At the end of the 18 holes, the number of points gained at each of the holes is added together to give a total points score. Because of its format it is suitable for strokeplay only.
