Phil,

c) Avoid that these dogs or cats make their physical needs in gardens, communal areas of the complex as well as in other private housing

So all dog & cat owners have been warned, what is the problem? Do these so called responsible owners follow their pets & pick up after them? NO so pay the ultimate price then. If owners are that worried then keep them in Mon to Fri & avoid this. Or is it these owners do not want them crapping in their own gardens or relish the thought that they may have to pick up after them? There are a number who do so, religously, well done for being a considerate owner. Like everything the minority spoil it for the majority.

It was my sofa that the kittens were living in and I am not bothered how much the sofa cost and I certainly wont be bringing it in from the patio. The point is that as much as I like all animals, but especially dogs, I am not prepared to have wild feral cats wandering in and out of my property and I dont care who gets upset about it. I used to work in a large factory when someone started feeding a stray cat and before you could say whiskers there were scores of them all over the factory and believe me they breed profusely if left unchecked. If we are not prepared as a community to catch and neuter them then we have no option but to have them caught and humanely put to sleep. If we do nothing you will soon find out how big the problem will become.

All of the posters wishing for the cats to be humanely put to sleep should ask the company / local council how they are disposing of the cats. From past experience it has been virtually impossible to find a vet that will put a healthy feral cat to sleep. Also what happens to the kittens when their mother is captured and removed? Are they rounded up or left to die slowly?

On Mar Menor Golf we have a community budget of 3000 euros to capture neuter and release. All money goes on cats as volunteers set traps and transport to the vet. Castration of male cats is about 40 euros while females starts at about 80 euros ( the price does go up a bit if they are pregnant) Our community did a deal with a local vet to get these prices. Every cat gets a health check and if they have any disease are put to sleep. The community also has to pay for the disposal of the body which is about 80 euros.

The capture, neuter, release program has been successfull here, also at La Manga where they have been doing it for over ten years. The cats that are released are territorial and will keep other cats out.

Our capture program has been running for 4 years. In that 4 years i have not heard of any one being attacked or scratched by a feral cat. If you corner one or when a mother is protecting its kittens is mainly when a cat will attack. I was a volunteer when the program started and we had many to catch. Over time the number of cats that needed to be caught reduced.

Dear owners, following our last e mail notification regarding the cats on resort please understand that we are looking to collect stray cats. In order that we can differentiate the difference between strays and pets please fit your cat with a collar and tag with your apartment number. This should be done by Thursday. Tags are sold at all vets.  The com pany will have a chip reader. Please understand that this action is following several complaints from owners

At last a bit of common sense is being used.  Perhaps ML read FB/EOS or someone informed them of the concernsed that were being expressed.

Get Bryon to ask ML.

By Spanish Law all dogs must be registered and chipped, no idea about cats.

For all you feral cat sympathisers, can you please come to my apartment and wash down my outdoor furniture and wash all my covers that are covered in cat p*ss and ****.  Then I can get on with enjoying my own holiday and not spend most of it cleaning up and moving on the cats....not pleasant for someone who doesn't like cats to have them swarming around your outdoor area when trying to relax.....pass me the traps...

 AG,

Hear hear, pass them on to me when you have finished with them. Thats for feral wild cats, no problem with pet cats as long as the owner looks after them properly.

Do you think they may move onto the issue of barking dogs soon? They bug me far more than the cats!!
