Can anyone please advise me on what I should expect to pay for Rates as my solicitor has been in touch to say there are some outstanding rates for 2010! I wasn't aware that this was due as I have not seen rates mentioned before. Is this correct?

Any help would be appreciated

Daren

Assume you mean the local council tax ( IBI ), which is around €90 per year payable at the council office in Alhama.

I had to pay two taxes last year, one of them as Phil has stated is the local council tax of €105 and the other is a non residents tax of about €92, I hope this is of some help to you.

This is the email we received and it seems high to me!
"As your fiscal representatives in Spain, we have contacted the local rates authorities in order to find out the situation with your local rates. I am writing to inform you that the local rates office has notified us the following:
The local rates for your property located at ISLA DEL CONDADO, (ALHAMA DE MURCIA) corresponding to the years 2010 are outstanding for the amount of 284,06€."

Can anyone shed any light on this for me as I'm confused
Thanks
Daren

 Hi Daren

Was just wondering when you bought your property, If it was 2-3 years ago you might owe taxes for more than just last year and maybe even some penalties for late payment. It could also include the fee that your solicitor wants for doing the paperwork. I would suggest the best action is to ask the solicitor for a breakdown of costs. They should have sent this to you regardless.

Thanks Mark
It does seem a little high and I wasn't expecting this so I thought I'd try to find out a little more before contacting the solicitor

Unless the council office has moved from Condado you can pay your "rates" there in the Al Kasar.  They will help you with the breakdown
