I have began to learn that booking flights and car hire early does generally provide very good savings. This year I have been bitten twice by booking early with Ryanair.

I have booked two return flights so far this year, both have been re-scheduled by atleast 12-14 hours. On the one occasion I couldn t accept the alternative flight that same day so was forced to take a flight two days later. Ryanair are great for offering you an alternative flight no matter what the cost, mine was twice the price in the end. The car hire price however had increased by over £100, a cost which  I had to foot the bill for.

Not much you can do about this situation, but worth considering when you book car hire.

I find it's always worth checking car hire bookings.

I booked 4 days car hire for April back in November with Do You Spain. I checked the price a couple of days ago and it was €20 cheaper

Needless to say I have rebooked and cancelled the original booking

Flights seem extortionate at the mo. London Airports to Alicante/Murcia are no longer cheap and cheerful!

Think i paid about £800 for the 5 of us to fly out in high season, his year the cost is £1350 as I've left it later to book....ouch!

However, weighed up the options and have now booked to Madrid... extra 3 1/2 hrs in the car when we arrive but £1000 better off in my pocket! Will have to see whether the extra journey time outweighs the grand in the wallet but at the mo it seems a sensible idea.

Last month I booked for 2 weeks in August on Ryanair, Bristol - Alicante, £408 for 4 of us. If booked today it would  be £635. No bags or other frills.

Incidentally, I flew from Liverpool earlier this month, and I had to purchase a clear plastic bag for toiletries.  The one I had was deemed too big by secutitas and would presumably endanger the safety of the aircraft.  When I politely pointed out that the offending bag was issued to me by ryanair check-in staff for a previous flight, it was made clear that if I caused any more 'trouble' I would not be travelling!!!
