we own two properties at CDA and have been suspicious of electricty usage from day one with iberdrola.

this has been confirmed 100% over the last billing period where niether property has been occupied at all, in addition we turn off the supply at the main breakers and i also took readings when we was last out at Cda.With this in mind the latest bills show 68 and 86 kwh usage, these readings are shown as actual rather than estimated, this seems to be the trend on all the bills i have recieved.

the amounts this represents in euros is not considerable but if this is happening at everyone of our homes on cda then it would be quite considerable.

has anyone else noticed this? or does anyone have an explanation as to how the meter can keep operating with all the power turned off?

Hi Mike,

The last bill in April didn't include any usage charges, just the standing charge.  So this bill actually covers 4 months rather than the usual 2.  Don't know if this is relevant, or if you have been there since feb, but thought I'd mention it.

Hi Mike - You didn't say where on CDA. In some of the Penthouses the meters have been connected to the wrong apartments, I know someone is paying for my electric and I theirs. To sort out is not that easy but will keep on trying.

We're in Penthouse Block 14 and our meter is mixed up with someone elses.  We have established what our correct meter is and have been trying to sort this out with Iberdrola since February.  Approx 16 telephone calls later, Iberdrola have still not been out to check the meters.  We are now paying our solicitor to sort this out as we're afraid of being cut off (if the other owner is not paying for our meter). 

We also completed paperwork for direct debit payments but Polaris appear to have 'mislaid' it.  We have already paid approx 300 euros of someone elses bill.  What a mess!

Hope you have more success sorting this out than we had.

We are in Jardin 13 and a similar thing happened to us.  Our upstairs neighbours were paying our bills and we were paying someone elses.  They managed to cancel their DD on our account and move it to their account with the help of a solicitor and someone in polaris.

I was in contact with Iberdrola and they kept saying they would fix it...at this stage I was paying my bill and someone elses.  In the end I just unauthorised the DD to the other person's account with my bank.  They did re-authorise it but I reclaimed the money through the bank.  All in all a complete shambles.

At the time I was thinking there could be hundreds of people in the same situation. The info I got was that bank accounts and power accounts were not matched up correctly when they were setup.

Thanks for the replies, Phil yes i was aware of the 4 month billing period.

we have a penthouse in block 14,  Lizzie we cannot be on your home as we have never used the apartment enough to get any where near 300 euros and we also have a 3 bed in jardin 2.

with regards to the 3 bed i am 99% certain we are on the correct meter and with the power off at the breakers the meter still goes up if what slowy, i was wondering wether the communal lights in the front of the home are connected to our meters?

with regards to the penthouse i do not know which is our meter as other owners would know thay are in the locked cabinets.

as other owners have experienced trying to deal with iberdrola is a time consuming nightmare.

does anybody knows how you can get in a locked cabinet where the electricity meters are in a Penthouse??

I was at Millenium and they can call somebody and it will cost you €30 are 15€ on a monday to open it??

Is it not normal that you can cheq your meters after somebody has rented your appartment?
