Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but have posted regularly on another- hoping like the rest to live the dream. I notice people seem to put what Jardines they are in and I hope it wont offend if i dont but my partners not to happy with me telling everyone our business, especially as we cant be there as often as we'd like. Suffice to say we love the place but keeping our remaining apartment is in the balance due to needing to work all the time- the credit crunch has bit!!

Anyway, we have heard from the sperson who bought our other apartment that areanet may not be going to be available in the apartments at all as he's heard on the grapevine they cannot sort the problem out. I'm posting to ask anyone it concerns to email and ask for information I'm going to email customer services, RPM and also polaris telecom. I think they'll have a 'contact us' on their website. We need the areanet to be able to work when and if we are at the apartment but dont need to be on any monthly contract. The alternative to areanet would be monthly or short contracts I beleive which isnt suitable either. Plus we have already paid for the equipment on that understanding- dont want to get into a refund situation with PW as I dont see it being a quick solution.

I also think we have waited long enough to find out whats happening- PW never keep us informed. I have read the same question being asked on the forums with no real reply. Our buyer may have just been fed a rumour but I really want to know for certain.

So I hope I might have persuaded a few of you to make some enquiries and maybe we can post them and see what we get- they may not be the same and we can take it from there. Push come to shove I'd want PW to at least do log on log off contracts that suit the individual if all else fails.

Hi Jimjam,

Just spoken to Ana in telecoms who says that Areanet@casa is still available and no plans to scrape it.

But then Ana is a stand-in for Maria who is on leave for the next two weeks, she usually works in customer services so I'm not convinced she is up on what's happening with telecoms.  I'll give Maria a ring on the 14th and see if I can get a definative answer.

Thanks Phil- hope you get through to her then. there is a name 'Maria' on the other forum.

Seems a bit of a coincidence to me that you've phoned her just as we have had that conversation with our buyer- by that I mean is this more than a rumour. But I wonder if its just come about because they say Manzano's is going to close and people are wondering whats going to happen. I'm not even sure how many took up the offer anyway so it mightn't be worth PW bothering with. It worked okay in La Torre though.

Anyway if a few more people make the enquiry PW might at least get some info out there.

What we might do is look at a dongle as an alternative but I'm not sure its worthwhile. Anyway we'd want a refund before then.

We'd be disappointed if areanet didnt happen was hoping to get that set up once we are in properly.

However read elsewhere that another internet service will soon be available from someone in Camposol so that might be an option.

It been very wet so far this week- staying with friends and not made Condado yet- but their internet has been on and off.

I'd missed a call which I presumed to be PW, so thanks for posting. Its a pity as areanet is ideal but at least there's an option for a refund if you've gone ahead paid for the equipment. Wish PW's public relations and their communication was better though.

Dear Sir,

As I explained you yesterday, the Areanet service is not avalaible in Condado anymore.
If you want to get Internet access you will have to go for the monthly or three months connections.

Regards.

This has come to me this afternoon,  via a query I made with RPM as I wondered if they had any current information (so they are the 'sir' in this email).

Disgrace if you ask me, to make you pay for something that has never worked, if you are not renting I can't see any non residents taking up a pay monthly contract, when the surgery shuts, where does that leave people who just want to check emails or even businessmen who want to use the golf course but keep an eye on work?

The position with this now seems to be that PW are still working on supplying areanet to the apartments but the internet is free at the moment, but they are not taking new clients. That being the case we can have a refund as we were not fitted up yet and I got this direct from Maria this week, though it took forever to get through to her. This change of heart doesnt seem to have been reported on this forum so hopefully thats good news to anyone who has had a modem fitted. I dont know what happens down the line if they find they are never going to sort it all out but as the small bar is shut, and therefore no areanet at all, I suppose it is their only option for now. I think you can still ask for a refund if you have had the equipment fitted and dont want to wait to find out they cant get areanet sorted out.

Hi All,

Here I am at sunny Condado utilising the internet in my apartment whilst it's still free.  Grin

Ok then, the situation with AreaNet@home -

The Areanet service is not currently working anywhere on Condado,  the only public access was at Manzana's which shut a couple of weeks ago.  Polaris Telecom have suspended sales to new customers until they get the service fully working again.  For those of use that have already paid for installation they are offering either a refund or a free 'Bronze' ( 1Mb ) connection until the service is fully available, which I think is only fair.
The bad news ( or good depending on how you look at it ) is that they expect to have AreaNet working by November the 10th, at which point our free connections will be turned off and will be switched over the AreaNet.  I assume at that point the service will be available to new customers as well.

As a backup I've also bought a payg 3G Dongle, that works OK although obviously not as fast as the fixed connection depending on the signal strengh,  but is only 5Cents a Mb which is a lot better than using your UK one at between £1.25 and £2.5 a Mb!.

Hi,

Can you suppply some more details on this?  I assume you only need the dongle if you have an old laptop without Wifi built in?

How is the access being provided?  Is there anyother internet providers on site apart from Polaris Telecom?

Phil
