Carol has just called me to ask if I would let her clients know that her internet is down.  In addition, the rains have been torrential since Sunday and she is probably going to be working all night to get our places dried out as the rain has gone under lots of front doors (even the ones with the drop-down bars and protector strips!!)  She is going round all of the apartments and lifting/drying as much furniture as possible to try to mitigate any damage. If you need to contact her urgently then give her a call - although I think she just wants to get her head down and power her way through it (you know what she's like!!).  Hopefully she will manage to keep all of our stuff safe.  She also added that the road from San Javier airport is pretty flooded so has told me to warn anyone driving over there to be extra careful.  Arlene.

Hi Nick

There was more rain at the weekend I'm afraid

La Torre looks like it's been badly hit again - i feel so sorry for all those involved.  Hope Condado hasn't been hit as badly.

Spoke to Jill from Condadodealhama Services today, as they let us know we had a leak coming through our extractor fan on our top floor apartment following the heavy rains.  She mentioned that although they have found quite a few apartments with leaks including their own they think Condado has coped with the deluge pretty well compared to other places.  All the water drain covers were opened to allow the water to drain off.  They did say that the supermarket had to be closed today and that all the swimming pools are full to brim but no real damage suffered.  I would suggest if you have a keyholder you ask them to check out your property as more rain is forecast for tomorrow.  Just hope nobody has been hurt in these floods as they look extremely severe.

Shelly

Thanks for the info- sure Carol will contact anyone with a problem. Lets hope it eases off soon.

Last year we had the same and we didnt have the door strips then- hopefully for most door strips will be sufficient .

Hi Arlene,

Unfortunately have only just logged in and seen this thread.  Tried to call Carol a few times before then, and have sent her a text.  So please send her my utmost apologies for disturbing her.  Should have known she would rise to whatever crisis ocurrs.  She is a an absoloute star.

And a thanks to you for passing on the message.   What a bl**dy great bunch of people I've got involved with.  Thats what this forum's all about.  Helping each other.

Now I must put this bottle of rum down, before I get on my soapbox and extol the virtues of this great community.

We just got back today. The rain on Sunday and Monday was as bad as I've ever seen it. it rained non stop for over 36 hours. When we arrived the two lakes down by the entrance gate for the jardins on the golf course were virtually empty. They are now both close to full!

Carol was indeed going round "squeegeing" (is that a word?) but have to say that Condado as a resort seemed to cope with it all rather well. The golf course was extremeley soggy when i went for a constitutional round it on Tuesday but it does look magnificent and apart for a little cosmetic stuff looks ready for play, although it has to be said i am no greenkeeper

Hi Folks,

Just looked at the photos of La Torre, thats awful. I hope the folks there have managed to save their appartments from too much rain damage.

Just wondering, we are going over on 11th and don't have any door strips in place (I'm dreading what I will find when I open the door), where could I get these ?? Are they easy to fit??  I know its too late for this rain, but at least i'll have something in place for the winter.

Thanks,

Ann

Just got back from 11 days on Condado.  Sunday and Monday stood on the patio of our ground floor penthouse and watched the torrent of water flowing by.  Never prayed so hard in my life not to get flooded as the brown muddy water crept further and further up the garden.  It finally stopped about a foot from the patio and started to gurgle away.

Carol has been running all over the place helping anywhere she can and being brilliant.  I am really not sure if any ground floor apartments  got flooded but I don't think they did - I actually think the drains kicked in and dealt with the torrent.

Monday afternoon going into evening we went to Puerto de Mazarron and the river was a raging torrent at the roundabout that leads to Bolnuevo/Mazarron and Puerto de Mazarron (sorry to keep using "torrent" but that is what it was) people everywhere were stopping their cars on the bridge and taking photos.  We went into Gires Navarro and the english lady working there has not seen rain like this in the 6 years she has lived there and her neighbour has not seen rain like this in the 30 years she has lived there.

It appears what has happened on La Torre has not happened on Condado as the drains dealt with the rainfall but e-mail your keyholder to find out.  I hope to have put some minds at rest .

Jane

Ann & Derek

The doors used on the apartments have a built in door trim, although not sure how effective they actually are.  Ours must be doing the job as Carol has informed us our apartment is ok.

If you open the door wide there is a spring loaded screw below the bottom hinge where if you turn it and look under the door you will release a trim that will come out the underside of the door. If you keep looking under the door as you virtually close the door you will see the trim lower as the screw presses against the inner frame, as the door shuts the trim should lower to close off the gap below the door.

The adjustable door trim is a lowerable brush iy will stop leaves etc but not water.

Still worth adjusting to keep out the leaves.,

Most apartments that get rain under door are upstairs

Thankfully and down to Carol being Carol we put our door trims down in August. Carol came round when we were over and I asked her about them and she put them down. Jan like you we havent heard anything and dont want to call Carol as Im sure that she is up to her tonsils. I think I might send her a text tomorrow as I would like to know how our apartment has held up.

When these monsoons arrived last Ocober there were lots of similar messages and some people unfortunately had water under their doors and into their living areas. We immediately had a strip fitted by our snagging company who were offering that service then for 20 euro's I  think but were later told you could buy at BrIco for 10 euro and fit yourself.  This is okay if you are actually on site at the time but we were glad to be able to do it anyway and as I recall it was the Jardines style 2 beds that suffered (but we didnt have the penthouses or Isla then). It seemed to depend on the orientation of the apartment though. The one fitted to the door seems to be more the draft excluder variety- but might do the job if its not a rising puddle wanting to get in.
