I have received notification from our solicitor that our tax liability is due for 2008.  Have any of you that competed in Jan 08 onwards received the same and if so what have you done.

This is what I have been quoted by the solicitor.  I am happy to pay this if it is correct:-

We would like to remind you that it is now the time to pay taxes in Spain for 2008, in consequence of the property located in Manilva. The regulations have changed and Wealth Tax has been abolished for 2008, so  you might know you are subject to Deem Income Tax for non residents.

We will very pleased to deal with your Tax obligations and to enable us to do so, we would need the funds according to the following estimation:

Deem Income Tax                                                                              224,96 Euros.
Fees for acting as your fiscal representative for 2.008                             200,00 Euros.
V.A.T. (16%)                                                                                        32,00 Euros.
Sundries (copies, forms, etc...)                                                              20,00Euros.
                                                                                                       ---------------------
Total                                                                                                 476,96 Euros.

Hi Tracey!

We haven't received anything from our lawyer at all.Been waiting to hear about electricity and water-everything seems to have gone very quiet. I thought there'd be lots of posts with very excited people having got to completion!!

Back out in September-can't wait now after the dreadful summer here. When are you out again?

Can't see how we can pay tax on something without an IBI, which presumably will happen shortly.

Do we need a local accountant.

One other question.  Will building insurance be part odf the community fees?

Thanks people for getting back to me.

Agree Paul that the tax calculation is worked out using the IBI and you are right that we have not received this yet, I will speak with my solicitor with regards to this and how he made the calculation, it maybe that he has received our IBI liability or knows what it may be. I think his bill for dealing with our tax is higher than I may get if I shop around, probably suggest that to him, haggle a deal in this lean times. my solicitor is very good and proved excellent throughout the whole Arenal Duquesa journey, he is very on the ball, probably too much now that he has mentioned the dreaded TAX! word.

Tax and IBI will have to be paid by us all eventually, a pain but true. However, the pleasure the apartment affords our family is immense and worth every penny.

Paul, not too sure if the building insurance for communities works the same as here in the UK, perhaps we need to look into that one. I would think it probably does, perhaps our friends over at Arenal Golf can help.
