Hi  All,

Great pictures , at last something ,a small step in the right direction,

I sincerly hope the people running the store can grow the business and eventually it will stock most of what the

community desires, and as you pointed out more goods will be added in the future so " buena suerte"

BUT sorry , I cant but feel at the moment that it reminds me of a tiny store some where in the back of beyond and Roda under pressure are just throwing things together to appease the masses,

As stated I hope it grows to be a  "5" Star Resort Supermarket but after 3/4 years are we to except this as Ok ?

I feel a little let down to be honest, lets hope as the saying said  "  from little acorns "

Regards

I just got an email from the President of Phase 1 telling me about this and I am delighted. With all due respect to JORED, what exactly would a five star supermarket look like???? La Manga Club is/was a five star resort and they have an Arbol Supermarket which is not exactly on a par with my Tesco High Street Mini market (I have stayed in La Manga many times in previous years even as recently as last autumn) so let us be happy with a mini mart and what it offers.

We are on a resort where 40% of the owners won't even pay their community fees so what do we expect in relation to a supermarket? Carrefour???

The new owners are to be congratulated for taking a chance in today's uncertain market so well done to them and they will depend on all of us owners and our renters and families to support them.

As they say "you get what you deserve in this life" and if we, as owners,  don't make it worth their while they will go elsewhere to make money and who could blame them. So let us be happy to have Sue and her husband in business on our behalf and give them our whole hearted support.

Lorraine

This is great news.

On the practical side, we are arriving at Roda on Good Friday and are wondering if the shop will be open on that day. Does anyone know of the Easter opening hours?

I had a chat with the guy in the shop on Monday and he has some great ideas. He is starting small, but did say he was going to listen to the customers and grow from their input. Also he did say that if there were late flights and if it was possible he would fit in with his customers movements. I think it’s a great location, great size; the prices are no more than you would expect and the people in there are very friendly and very helpful.

Good luck to them and well done.

Lorraine,

I got an e-mail like you and probably many others from the President

Did you actually read any of my 2 posts? let me refresh part of  them for you

" I sincerly hope the people running the store can grow the business and eventually it will stock most of what the community desires "

" I shall be going in there to support the good people, lets help them to make a success of it "

My point is with RODA , , this Resort was 1st planned in 2003 they have had a very long time to draw up a supermarket that befits a 5 star Resort and as in most things they do, they have broken their side of the Contract

What has the supermarket got  to do with non payment of the community fees ? That is the problem of the Residents and hopefully it can be soughted at the AGM in March

La Manga Club does have an Arbo the supermarket ,but it also has a mini-mart that stocks everything from all the basics to fresh fish and meats

Our family has various businesses on La Manga Club plus my Spanish wife has worked there for 10 years so you could say I also Know  the Resort. One of the ventures is a Bar called  " The Last Drop " so perhaps when you are next passing we could buy you a drink and celebrate our Supermarket on RODA ,and give Sue and her Husband all the support we can , As yet I dont no  Sue"s Husbands name , but I shall go onto their Shop and introduce myself  and as Mike B stated they have some progressive ideas so it should benifit us all

Cheers to Sue and her Husband

I think your comments were a little offside ,WE all have a vested interest for RODA to work, but if I feel I am not getting what I was promised , then I reserve the right to express it

Regards

Good luck to the new shop. I spent some money there this week and will continue to support. If you want a major supermarket on site then put your money where your mouth is and support the one we've got. I for one am thrilled.

For those criticising Calidona / Roda go and have a look in Serena - hotel closed golf course now a municipal course. I for one am glad I chose Roda and Calidona.

Just returned after enjoying 3 weeks of glorious sunshine. The course looks superb and it was nice to see progress being made on P4 apts.   I met up with Paul & Sue, the proprietors of the new shop and gave them some business each time I passed.  With regard to JORED who seems to think that we should have a 5 star supermarket, I am afraid that common sense must prevail.  Roda is a golf development  with very few permanent residents with the rest of us holiday makers visiting from time to time.  At no time except possibly August will the resort be awash with numbers.

Paul & Sue are very nice and friendly people and need our support. It would be suicidal for them to stock the shop with large amounts of food , most of which will have sell by dates.

So let us realise that this is only ever going to be a convenience store and give them as much support as we possibly can.

Remember what happened to the UK rural Post Office network - USE IT OR LOSE IT.

Hi

I commend the owners of the new shop but you have to be realistic. We were sold a development with a superb golf course (provided) PLUS De Vere Hotel shops and restaurants. The developer never said 'we will not provide if......' it said you buy an apartment/townhouse/villa and we will deliver a golf course hotel restaurants and shops'. They have failed us and need to take responsibility.

I am down in Roda at the moment for the easter holidays and am delighted to see the mini market open and to read the very positive posts on this subject from barrygeo, storeyc, MikeB, Riddler, LP etc. The mini market is just what we need at the moment and the owners seem to have a very flexible approach to when they close in the evening as I was able to call in for a bottle of wine after 7.00pm last night on the way home from golf.

Bunty this is a posting about the mini market which is being run as a stand alone business by two individuals who do not have anything to do with Roda or Calidona and are simply renters. So to use this thread to criticise Roda and moan about what you were sold is just putting a very negative slant on what up until now has been a positive thread.

The world economy is in severe recession and any company worth its salt will consolidate now and not spend money irrespective of what was promised before this unprecedented situation arose. I can only congratulate Calidona and De Vere in not building at the moment as we do not want an empty hotel or a half built one. Calidona are building the hotel for De Vere Group and if they don't want a hotel at the moment then it would be foolhardy in the extreme for Calidona to build it. The fiscal situation here in Spain is very precarious at the moment and I prefer to see caution being used by Calidona which ultimately protects all of our investments.

I am down here in Roda for around 30 plus weeks per year and have a great apartment which is better quality than anything in the vicinity, I have a fantastic golf course which is challenging ever time I play it, I have a really great Spanish restaurant on site and the availability of a take away food service and I now have a mini market on site. I am a very happy owner and I firmly believe that the promised shopping centre and sports facilities, (which appear to have been started as foundations have been poured recently in that area), will come on stream later this year and the hotel will be here when things improve on the world financial stage.

I was in the Clubhouse last night and it was packed which was great to see. There are plenty of holidaymakers here at the moment and owners and it is great to see the place so busy. So get along to the mini market which is now even stocking freshly baked goods and support Sue and Paul who are providing a great service for us all.

Don

I have just returned from Roda and the mini-mart was a god send for the Easter weekend, no pun intended.  Having flown in on Thursday and got a taxi, having a place to buy the essentials meant we could relax and enjoy our weekends golf.  Best of luck to Sue and Paul, they are providing a very valuable service that all of us owners should use and help grow.  Face facts guys the world economy is through the floor and particularly Spain so anyone putting their neck out to provide us with a much needed service needs our support.

As a golfer it was great having a shop between the front and back nine as the golf course is no longer running the refreshment cart service, not economically viable for the new management of the clubhouse apparently.

The shop also has an email ordering service now as some of the essentials like bread go very quickly, if my memory is correct it's theminimarket @ hotmail . es (remove the spaces the posting police won't let me put the email address in until I've made 10 posts - unbelievable) but if I'm wrong someone is bound to correct me ;o)

We spoke to Paul and gave him a few ideas and hopefully they will be getting an ice-cream concession soon.

Hi Bunty

I agree with everything you said  and I will repeat just a tad of his thread if I may

" I commend the owners of the new shop"

I to commend  Sue and Paul and have been into their  shop a few times to support them and I hope it goes with all our help from strength to strength,

However this project was first muted in 2003 and no doubt with your comments sandrab, fair dues and ahughes269 you would have read my post on the 18th March its not a personal attack at Sue and Paul its again at Roda for not providing what we all paid for , So I dont go along with this Credit Crunch theory thats a kop out

We took a chance when we purchased a property here AND Roda took a feasability study and checked the old Cah Flow and dont forget they have had 3/4 years of the good times when all should have been in place , when they started to build with ALL the facilities that were promised in the Brochures . It seems to me we have kept to our promise but Roda are woefully short on their side

StoreyC ,,,,,,,,,, perhaps its "common sense" to except a Ford Focus when you paid for a Bently turbo ,, nice Car but not what you paid for no !

Where else are we supposed to air our veiws ? Roda dont listen they are on a massive cost cutting , we are just told the Golf Cart with refreshments etc is not feasable , litle by little the Residents are being squeezed on all sides, we need action not paint a Rose tinted picture, before its too late

For Renters and Residents unless we can offer a top class Resort with all that was promised soon then other then the Residents no other Holiday/business people will want to come to our Resort , then where does that leave Sue and Paul ????

I tell you what we need to help Sue and Paul to grow is to get onto Roda or your phase Presidents and voice your concerns !! More people means more MONEY means more choice for all of us in their Supermarket

I am sure we are all after the same thing in the end , better Resort for all, But I, like you all, reserve my right to voice my veiws and if we dont agree then thats what a forum is about

I'm new to this posting thing, though not new to Roda.

I have spent quite some time looking at the posts on this and Corvera and I have to say my glass should be taken away through the dishwasher and on the rinse cycle looking at how miserable some of the threads are!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Use the threads for what their title suggests otherwise valuable information will get lost in the chatter, as good, bad or ugly as it gets

I like many bought on Roda, got stung by MRI, got a lawyer (now replaced) based in Calpe (name withheld in case of litigation etc etc etc.....) Got my apartment 18 months late, dealt with Calidona's dreadful customer service, and all of the snags, no air-con in August!!, water coming through the walls thanks to burst pipes and no heating in November!!.

BUT I bought because the product was what I wanted, great apartment 10 minutes from the airport on a FANTASTIC golf course with the opportunity of the other benefits (hotel, spa etc). Clubhouse (Excellent), golf facilities (excellent), professionals(excellent), rest of the facilities (work in progress), hotel (we'll see), beach club (who cares hate sand)

I too am very disapointed in Roda and the facilities that are being provided compaired to what it was sold as!!

Why should we not say what we think on the forums thats what it is for. I still love Roda but we paid a lot for it and thats because we were suppose to be getting a 5* hotel and facilities that went with it now we are not it makes me so mad that Roda can get away with thing like putting a carpark in and expecting us to be happy about it!!
