Im trying to find a pay as you go broadband solution for my apartment. I know you can hire a 3G dongle from Roda at 7.50 per day or use the clubhouse w-fi.

However I wonder is there a pay as you go 3G offering from a spanish mobile company?

movistar or telefonica etc

Anybody seen anything. I searched the web but couldnt find anything.

Same packages as in the UK available form the local phone shops either PAYG or contract

VODAFONE is a bit more to buy the PAYG dongle but the credit doesn´t run out as on some of the others

Make sure which ever provuder you select that you have normal mobile phone cover at phase 3

Orange do it and very cheap, but I went through the process of signing up with them (all in Spanish and I do not speak a word of it1), on the understanding that if I could not get reception, we could return it within 15 days and not get charged anything. However, because we tried to connect and managed to get on once (without walking outside, or down the road !), they tried to charge me 150 euros, so be careful. After about 150 euros worth of phone calls / e-mails / faxes etc they eventually agreed to waiver the charge.

I am currently looking for an alternative and know there are other options. Probably like you, I do not want / need a regular monthly access, just something infrequently, when we are over and a connection which will support using Skype, so you can call anywhere in the world FREE by phone.

Les

Hi, new to this forum. We have an apartment in 3B block 86. We need a fast connection for my laptop so I have a Spanish Vodafone USB modem from the Vodafone shop at the Dos Mares shops just of the A332 about 10Km from Roda. I paid 59 Euros for the USB modem with 150MB included. It lasts for up to 3 months then 19E for 150MB, 24E for 400MB & 59E for 1GB of data use but you only have 3 months to use it. The signal is not great I get 2 bars in the apartment and 3 bars on the roof but it is at HSDPA 3G speeds so voice over Skype is fine. Downloads also seem fine.

Thanks Tecnik this is exactly the one that I was talking about and that I use in Spain whan travelling and in the UK

I do howvevr have 2 one Spanish and a seperate SIM for Spain, yes it uses a SIM, as if you use an English one in Spain you go on a roaming rate and it gets very expensive

You can buy the donglke and cards seperately

Thats interesting Technik, Do you know if they will let you try it first, to make sure you can get a signal at your property. Also, do they speak English at the Vodaphone shop and do you have to get top up's from the shop, or can you do this on line ?

Also, would you happen to know how much memory Skype would use ? I appreciate it would depend on how much you use it, but say, for a 30 minute phone call.

Hi Les

Visit the Vodafone shop in Dos Mares centre or Parque Meditearean and they speak English

You top this up  like a normal mobile telephone, via awebsite, which works when there is no credit, and you can top up online or at the bank cash dispensers

If you read the hread I believe that he is already using it with Skype as I do in the Uk but I normally use VOIPSTUNT for my calls

I have used my Spanish dongle at RODA

Hi, Les

I did not check the dataMB on Skype but would guess at 10 - 15MB for 30 min voice over internet. Inspectahome are correct but one girl in the shop does not speak English, the blond girl does. To be sure about the signal the only way is to try it or get someone with a Vodafone simm phone to stand in your apartment and see how many signal bars are up! We use Skype with 2 bars in Block 86 3B, and its fine. Vodafone will not let you try a new one on sale or return, it's a 59 Euro risk?
