Another piece of news is that the restaurant and bar at Roda Clubhouse appear to be under new ownership with a local Spanish family run business taking over all services.

I am informed the company run one of the better restaurants in Murcia and also a hotel near Granada, not confirmed though.

I believe there are plans to change menus and a general reduction in prices but not quality, large beer is already down to 3 euros.

Let us wish them good luck and hope that value for money brings in more custom especially as things are becoming quite competitive over here.

I thought that the restaurant was run through the De Vere group?

Let's hope the service gets a little quicker too.

hi

Thanks for this update.

Do you think that this means that DeVere have withdrawn completely? Are DeVere running the BEach Club still do you know - and is Mike Malone involved at all.

I and others would be most grateful for any information.

Sandra

Hi Everyone,

Maybe we should approach Roda and ask that question direct ?

Why is it we find out snippets , rumours , and a distinct lack of info from them.?

I am sure like every other owner all we want is some sought of stability and prior notice of any changes

I think they owe us that at least

If its true ,and the quality  and speed of service ,together with a reduction in prices. this can only be a positive thing

The only worry is as Sandra pointed out, where is De Vere in all of this, I wonder in the bigger picture this aint good

Sorry dont want to put a damperner on it , just want a straight answer

Cheers

Hi all. Just returned from Roda. Jose in the restaurant said exactly as Chris posted: restaurant AND ALSO BEACH CLUB under the new ownership. Golfcourse and Pro shop remain under the De Vere umbrella ( at present). New car park & ?tennis courts/ five a side pitch? appear to have construction progressing rapidly. Thanks again to Angela for organising the Monday morning coffee morning: it was great meeting new people. Regards, Shelagh.

thanks everyone for the regular updates - its great finding these things out when we are not there, and as jored says, roda dont seem to be keeping us informed.

it would be a good idea for roda to have a thread on here - even if it was just for them to post as it would at least be a way for them to comunicate?

maybe eos could set up such a thread?

Hi Hevs here

I have to say I am apalled at the way roda are handling things. and if de vere do pull out it will have a major impact on all of us.

The only reason we bought on roda was because of de vere the hotel and facilities. We were told at the time of purchasing that even if it was not in our indervidual contract all the facilities adverised by caladonia would have to supply by spanish law.

Oh how nieve I have been. Has anyone seriously looked at were we all stand if we unite and fight these issues togeather?

The delay in facilities is making rentals difficult and that along with the euro rate makes the future a bit bleak. I am sorry to be so negative but i feel it is time somthing is to be done. I am suprised the spanish clients have not done more may be there are spanish forums we dont know about!!

I thought I would post up the latest email I have received from customer services at Roda regarding the building work or lack of it on the commercial centre

"I advance you that the  works that will start  a long the   next weeks, we will start a parking area in order the people  can have an easier access to the golf club. Beside the parking area  we will build sports facilities, (tennis and paddle court and and area for basket ), we will try that these facilities was finished before summer. We are closing the negotiation with the suppliers for the commercial area, this area will start in the following months, in this way you will have in one year more or less restaurant, supermarket...
About the hotel everybody know that the situation is not right, the banks are not available and is normal to think that a prestigious branch that wants to have the first hotel abroad UK wants to have  a successful opening, and everybody knows that all the experts recommend wait till the market developed again."

I have to say that I'm more positive than most about the future at Roda albeit we are having to wait a long time for things to happen.
If we do have a commercial centre by next summer then at least its a small step forward. The question is, will we actually get one

There was a suggestion of the old clubhouse being turned into a temp supermarket, i wonder is this still the case.

Hi this is Linda Mikes wife.  I was over in the old clubhouse today and was officially shown the new supermarket area.  It is going to be in the old coffee shop , they have already removed everything from that area and put new flooring down. At the moment it is one large empty space big enough for a convenience shop.  In the next few days they are going to put in the shelving etc and I was assured that they now have someone to run it.

The new car park opposite the old clubhouse is coming along in leaps and bounds they have all the coupling down and the bays are all shaped out.  There is a path that leads to the clubhouse and a path that comes out directly on to the exsisting path outside what will be the shop.

Hope this helps you guys who havent been out for a while

Linda

We were out last week and were told that there is music on the terrace every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

The Clubhouse is really busy at the moment so booking would be a good idea especially if you are going to the clubhouse at the weekend and  want to sit on the terrace as there are only so many tables for the bar menu and the remainder are for the restaurant. The Menu has improved yet again and the food has been excellent on our visit from tapas right through to the tasting menu which we tried for the first time. It is great to see so much support from Spanish owners and locals in the area as well this year which means that the advertising on the motorway exits is paying off for Collados. There was a real buzz about the place when we were there with the course steadily busy and plenty of people around.

The clubhouse is being managed by Collados and you can check the website out on www.colladosderoda.com and book online through the website.

Thanks Lorraine for the clubhouse link to their website.

I am a bit disappointed though that they do not have an option to view it in English, it would be nice to put this link on our website but not sure if it would give potential guests the impression that it is geared more towards Spanish holiday makers. I realise collados do have an awful lot of local Spanish customers but I hope the English owners and guests are not starting to get overlooked.

Hi All

Just had some friends back that stayed at our place on phase 3 for the first time but found the clubhouse not to there liking. They told me that the service was poor and the food not much better. My friends wife had her dinner dropped on her lap. That did'nt help much. They only went the once preferring to stay at home or in town.

Sorry for beiing negative but maybe the Brits and Irish are getting overlooked as it now getting busy.

I was at Roda in March and I must say I found the food in the Club House to be much poorer since the new operators took over which was really surprising and disappointing as I had read many positive comments on the forum and I was with 5 guests.

My wife was over in May with her friend and came back very unhappy with the Club House experience. Meals differed from what was ordered and food arrived cold. After the first few nights she decided to stay away for the remainder of her stay.

My son has just come back after a week and he also says the Club House service was really poor. Waiters did not take a note of orders and then brought the wrong food. Orders were taken and never delivered and he said the quality of food was  pretty disappointing. He was particularly unhappy that the food at the Beach Club was overpriced and totally underwhelming. Like my wife he also found other places to eat for the duration of his holiday.

Believe it or not we are not fussy people, however the change from La Higuera to Los Collados has not been a positive one in my opinion. The staff are very friendly but the product and service on offer now is not anything like the previous standard. Since the Club House is the centrepiece of the resort in the absence of a hotel and the main means by which we can get value from our owner's discounts I can only hope De Vere are back in position as soon as possible.

I was dissappointed to read the comments below particularly since we are just back from three weeks in Roda and ate in the Clubhouse probably 12 times. We ate in the bar a few times after golf but mostly in the restaurant section on the terrace and in the restaurant. We had the Golfer's Menu three times, on the recommendation of a friend on another forum and tried it again as lately as Saturday night and it was really excellent with five courses and a glass of wine for 22.50, we also tried the tasting menu at 45 euro which was fantastic and had more courses than you could imagine - food just kept coming. All of our food from tapas after golf to the restaurant was excellent with many really nice little touches such as hot rolls, complimentary bottle of wine on several occasions, complimentary shots of limoncello and something else wonderful which tastes a bit like Bailey's. We are on Phase 1 so it is a short easy walk to and from the clubhouse and a totally relaxing evening.

We are Scottish and are consistent supporters of the clubhouse and are in Roda probably around 30 plus weeks a year. We have found the food slightly better than before and the service consistently better. The music nights on the terrace are excellent with a wider variety of music than last year.

I find the posting by Corrs totally fascinating. How can the fact that your visitors who went once to the clubhouse and didn't like it mean that "maybe the Brits and Irish are getting overlooked as it now getting busy"? I cannot imagine that you are suggesting that the fact that your visitor had her dinner spilled in her lap was because she wasn't Spanish as I am sure that it was an accident. On all of the nights when we were in the clubhouse the majority of people there were Spanish but we certainly were not overlooked and got the best of attention. There are now more english speaking waiters and waitresses than ever before which suggests that the owners recognise that their customer base is varied and not all Spanish.

The bar/snack menu (hot sandwiches, pastas, salads, fish and steak) really caters for everyone and we have had some picky teens in our group over the course of the holidays, There is just about everything you could want from fish, steak, lamb, pork on the restaurant menu which although slightly more expensive is on a par with any upmarket restaurant and would give any of the local more sophisticated restaurants such as La Almazara and La Casa Reloj a run for their money. All of the food is made in the Spanish style and some people may find that a bit offputting. If you eat at the bar ie off the bar menu you are going for the cheap and cheerful option and I suggest that you give the restaurant a chance as the food quality and presentation is second to none.

We find most of the restaurants in the square to be poor in relation to service and food quality with the consistent exception of La Diva, so it is horses for courses. If you want a typical british meal when you are in Murcia then the best place to go is the square and the food is a lot cheaper there but as with all restaurants you get exactly what you pay for.

We will be in Roda next week and are looking forward to the Beach Club for a long lunch as we have had excellent reports of the lunch menu with gorgeous fresh seafood their speciality.

Lorraine

Hello all, New to this and want to be fair.

We have been in roda now 9 days and so far so good ,1 or 2 snagging issues which are in hand otherwise it has been what we had hoped for and the kids love the pools, tennis etc.

I felt I have to say how we have found the clubhouse.

We have been there 3 times as a family and the experience has been vey positive.

Service has been first class ,prices seem to be lower  and good choice for the children.

The menus we were shown were in English also.

We went out 2 nights to the square at the 525 and found that the same quality of fresh food for the same money is difficult to find.

Regarding the Beach club we have not been there yet.

We talked to 2 different couples who went there over the last week by ferry and they both have said it was wonderful, one of the couples said that it has improved from last year. They said they had lunch in the restaurant which was not cheap however it was the best value for money they have ever had.

Regarding the discount we got 10% as owners no problems at all.

I have just returned from Roda last week after a fortnights stay and must say I did not enjoy the food in the clubhouse as much as I did in January, in fact I only ate there once this time compared to 4 times in the week I was there in Jan.  For the sake of an extra 5 mins walk the I found the food in Campells much superior.  The clubhouse will do for a burger but that's about it. I have resisted so far in posting my comments as I did not wish to appear negative and felt that the restaurant and bar could have been suffering from teething problems.  However, reading some of the comments below it appears that this may not be the case.   I visited the Club House in December and had a fantastic meal.  I visited again in May with some friends after telling them how great the food was and came away very disappointed and embarassed.  We had to send our steak back and settle for a pizza.  We were also disappointed with the menu as we felt it was over priced and lacked variety and imagination and decided not to eat there again.  Having said all this it appears from some of the comments below that the menu has improved and am now looking forward to visiting there again.  I am also pleased to read that there is now a tapas menu available.
