I have just managed to download my electricity bills from the Iberdrola website. You need your contract number, NIE and the last 4 digits of your bank account to register. This way you can get copies of any bills that have been sent back from San Javier post office.

Thanks for the info Mrallen we'll try that.

We have been charged twice by direct debit, but everytime we go to the Post Office in San Javier they say they have no post so we haven't had a clue what we are being charged for.

Do you know how long they keep post at the Post Office?

Hi Maureen & Bryan

Do you know if anyone else can pick post up on your behalf?

It will be a problem for part timers especially if you only come over for a weekend.

I know at our committee meeting fro Manzana 3 they said they hadn't got a postman to deliver our post despite being given our post box keys & having our LFO.

We got our first bill in August for 45 Euros but we were in England most of the summer, we have just had a second one for 100 Euros. Does any one know exactly what we paid the 300 Euros to Taray for as I understood it was for connection. This cant be right as I was debited 175 euros for the Iberdrola contract in July.

Hi Steve & Nikki

Our first bill was 48 euros & we were over for a week during that time.

Our second bill went through our bank account in November & was for about 50 euros - again we were out there for a week during that period.

We also paid the 300 euros to Taray via the solicitor & that apparently was for supplying power & water etc prior to the LFO, then the 175 euros was to Ibedrola for the electricity meter. Apparently when we go onto our own water supply there will be no further costs.

I think if you look back on this forum there is a posting about the 300 & 175 euro charges maybe around July / August this year

Anybody that is interested.

Iberdrola have made three deductions from my account. One for 32 euros a second one for 45 euros. These charges were made between the 20th of September and 17th of November when the aparment was only occupied for ten days. A  third charge for 176 euros was made on the 28th of November. I have managed to contact them via email and they have informed me that there is a 25 euro standing charge payable every two months regardless of any electricity usage. News to me! The 176 euro charge is for the supply of the meter and nothing to do with the 300 euros we all paid up front to Taray. This apparently, was an 'admin'  charge, or as I choose to call it, a 'rip off' charge.

I have tried a great many times to register on line for e-billing but failed miserably on each occasion due to a totally naff website. Having provided all the information they request and ticking the relevant boxes I would then click on continue whereupon the screen tells me I must agree to the terms. How many times do they want me to agree to the terms before they let me in? I informed Helder and he has been as helpful as he can but I suggest I have a word with him when I am over there in January.

Regards Colin.

Hi

Is the 300euros essential? did Taray just take it from peoples banks without informing anyone? i heard it was a 300euro charge for taray to set it up on peoples behalf as its difficult for some being away and with the language. I feel capable of doing it myself so ceratinately dont want to pay Taray to do it. How does it work, did people agree to pay the 300 or was it taken without notice? I think our phase will be due to start paying bills soon as we are almost finished so want to hold on to that 300 euros before its too late!!!

176euros administration charge...... was it gold paper and ink? so in total thats 476 euros just to set up!! I think im going to ask a few of the spanish and see if they have had to pay all of this as well.

Hi Tina

The 300 euro charge was included in our payments to our Solicitor along with the stamp duty, land registry, notary fees, etc, etc. It was supposedly their fee for dealing with the set up of utilities, i.e, electricity and water, for non-residents. We assume this was 150 euros per utility. The 176 euros that  Iberdrola charged on top was for the supply of the meter (I assume I own this meter now)! We are informed that there will be no further charge when the water supply is changed from builders to permanent.  Yeah, right!!!!

If you feel you can deal with this changeover yourself don't pay the 300 euros unless you have already paid it. Check your deposit and fees that you have already paid.

luego. xxx

Hi Tina, Colin & everyone else

We also had to pay the 300 euros to our solicitor on completion & were told at the time this was for the set up of the utilities i.e water & electric.

We were surpised to read on this forum in July that there was another 175 euros to pay for the electricity meter. We checked this out with our solicitor at the time & they said that the 300 euros was to connect us up so that we could have water & electric (at the time we were on builder's supply), then the 175 euros was for the meter (which our agent & everyone else had omitted to tell us about there being another cost)

We have also been told there will be no charge for connecting to the water, but like Colin we'll believe it when it happens.

Please everyone make sure that you pay the 175 euros for the meter & make sure that your payments have been set up by direct debit if you don't live out there permanently as a couple up our road got cut off (they had left food in the freezer etc). Luckily the people looking after there house spotted it had happened & got in touch with Iberdrola who once they had received the outstanding payments reconnected within a few hours. We signed our direct debit form when we completed, however we changed bank accounts after that so had to make sure that we let our solicitor know so they could inform Iberdrola as we couldn't make head nor tail of the website.

Hi Tina

The exchange rate might be bad, but at least it isn't as gloomy in Spain so we are all still making our Christmas / New Year escape !!!!

Have a good Christmas & perhaps if you wish really, really hard that tree might start sprouting !!!

Best Wishes Sue & David

Hi all

Just checking your board and we have a semi at Balsicas.  We also were horrified that the electric meter money was taken after the 300€ but please rest assured there is no more money to be taken for the water meter.

 Hi all

I too have been interested in your comments re Iberdrola. We own at Santiago de la Ribera. We too paid for the meter though still not been charged for water. There is a monthly charge for the meter; just as in England there is a standing charge. If you are not in residence this is the only amount you will pay. Bills are sent every two months.

I would recommend that you check your meter reading regularly. We, along with everyone in our complex were seriously overcharged earlier this year, due to incorrect meter reading. We arranged for someone to check the meter & we then sent the new reading to Iberdrola. Within a week the money had been paid back into our account and a new bill issued for the correct amount. Iberdrola also sent an e-mail to apologise with a phone number to contact them if we were not happy. We were very impressed with the speedy way this dealt with. Don't hesitate to contact them if you do have concerns. We dealt with the whole issue from here in England.

You have a great town in San Cayatano & you sound a real friendly group of people, hope it all continues to develop well for you.

Happy New Year, hope the sun shines as we are due out in January & are looking forward to some warm sunshine.

I'm not at San Cayetano, My Brother is but I have just bought up the road from you and have just received a DD for 174e water connection fee, my Lawyer set the connection up, as it was a existing property the reconnection of the meter was the only charge, and looking at your posts I will be getting anoth 175e for the electrical meter conection, below is the water man!

There is no standing charge in the UK for any type of utilities meter. We feel that  what equates to a 12.5 euro per month charge to be unfair. Especially as I was charged 175 euros for the meter. It would appear I am now paying rental on something I hyperthetically own. We are going to be in San Cayetano in January and will check the meter reading most carefully!

We have tried unsuccessful to ascertain access to our ebill at Iberdrola.naff! Probably will try again but will probably be p*****d off again.

We have also attempted to register with the Iberdrolla (?) on line bill service, and have still yet to succeed in downloading any bills, current or previous. We also notice that yet more money has been debited by this organisation from our bank account this month.

If anyone has in fact managed to get this service working, could they please post full details on this thread of how to do it as we are getting tired of this organisation taking money from our bank account whenever they feel like it and with no prior explanation. It is a fact that if a company in the UK tried to operate in a similar fashion, they or the bank involved would be legally required to refund the money to the account holder without question.

Surely it is not beyond the wit of Iberdrolla to send their bills to the UK - Taray seemed to have no problem in sending correspondence to our home address, and in fact as I recall charged us several hundred Euros supposedly to set up our account with the electricity and water companies. Clearly they have failed to pass our home address on to said companies, or if they have, this has (as is usual in Spain) just been ignored.

Thanks to anyone who may be able to throw any light on this irritating problem.

Les & Frances.

Hi Les and Frances

Have you registered with Iberdrolla  and received your user name and password from them? If not,  tell us how far you have got and we can go from there.

Colin.
