we put an offer in and it has been accepted

can someone please help me - i need to transfer the deposit, the agent has put me in touch with someone, given me an on the spot rate of 1.27, and a 2 month forward rate of 1.26, is this good?

has anyone got any advise for me please

The Spot & Forward rate you have been quoted are about normal for the current climate today.  Although I am sure you are aware how volitile the market has been recentley.  From 1.19~1.30 in 6 days recently.  I fixed on a forward rate when I got 1.25 (it had been 1.19 just 4 days earlier).  I thought it was a good recovery, but 1 week later the Euro then collapased after the Jerrys caved in & we were back at nearly 1.30.  If you can afford it,  I would still fix at 1.26 in the short term, at least for your deposit money, as the current volitility could easliy see it turn back to 1.19 over the coming weeks.

There is a long term view, sponsored on this site by Shampers & chums, who believe it will be back at 1.35 next summer.  They could (& we all hope), that they are right.  But as he is a founder member of "Gamblers (and others) Anonymous" that assumption should not be baked into your long term forecasts.

we have bought in los naranjos garden 8, well i say we have bought, i cant even sort out the deposit money durrr - confused by it all, and i thought i was quite clever (ish) too!!

are these currency people better than our own banks then? i always thought i would just transfer from my bank - obviously i was wrong (so much be being clever!!)

being a girl i just cant wait to shop to furnish it, any tips on where to go would be great too

When do they say you will complete?     I'm out soon  mapped it all out  ikea etc shoppin centre Murcia, couple of individuals shops in Mazarron, Muebles Direct now known as the Furniture Store, near Torres Pacheo.  Gonna have a fuuun time!!

Well done and congratulation, glad you have decided to become a condardean or something like that, now the question on everyone lips is how good a deal did you get, we wont cry if you tell us and of course we understand if you’d rather not say?

We are also in Los Naranjos Jardin 8, which apartment have you bought?

As far as money goes the simple answer is to decide if you want to gamble or not if the answer is no then lock in the rate now and know how much it’s going to cost. If you leave it and take the risk you may do a little better but you may well do worse the problem is who knows for sure in this climate. So I think advice will not help, you just need to decide which way to jump, If Shampers picks up on this thread he will provide his view on this. You can transfer from your bank but you usually get a better deal by using one of the currency company like Monycorp or Currencies Direct or one of the others, just have a ring around and see who is giving the best rate but often not much between them, but you should do better that the bank. Endless information on the forum about furnishing you apartment get a pen and paper and start reading back though the forum. You can access the old threads by going to the bottom of the list in the Condado thread and clicking on view all threads.

yes i did buy through them, they were really nice. Put us up in the Mar Menor intercontinental, it was lovely.

thanks for your advice on the money, i just went with the rate they gave me, i took a chance it wont go up, like you say its once of those things really if it does

i just want to get it all sorted

they have told me should all be completed in 6-8 weeks, some of the ones we looked at had completion date for 24th October

Michelle you'll love it, the people are sooo nice and you can get as involved or not as you want too. Personally I dip I into this site every day on my iPhone cos my kids are always on the computer and it passes the time like now when I'm waiting outside the school inthe car. Pouring with rain outside and this let's me look forward to sunny breaks in Spain! Tan

saying that about the weather, it rained on saturday, we even had hailstones!! but the way i looked at it is if we loved it in the rain we will really love it in the sun!! we did actually have a second viewing on the monday in the sun which was nice

Hi Michelle - Congratulations, I'm sure you won't regret it - We are on the next door garden to you, so hopefully will meet you before too long - Good luck with all the shopping you'll be doing from here on in, the decisions you make today about furniture will be completely different in a couple of weeks, it will drive you round the bend, but as you will see from earlier postings, this is exactly what the jardineers went through earlier on, and they live to tell the tale - Just out of interest, what sort of information were you given regards the shopping and/or bar facilities on Los Naranjos?

she told us about the Foro and apparently the bit outside the club house will be like the bar etc at jardines, but to be honest i took it all with a pinch of salt, cause it seems they do change their minds, like they did with the foro

looking forward to the foro being opened, she took us around la torre, and told us there would be similar type of places there 

we were told it would be completed in may 2009 by the polaris girl, along with the first 9 holes, but the lady who showed us around told us to add a month or two to that

I seem to have spent the last 3 weeks of my life tracking the Euro rate and trying to decide what to do for the best to secure my completion monies for mid November. I wouldnt recommend it on the nerves !

I wanted to cash in at >€1.29 a week or so ago only to be let down by my bank not opening a Euro account in time. 3 days later the rate had dropped to €1.24 !

Finally managed to convert today at €1.283 which I am greatly relieved about as it gives me a bit of a buffer in my budget

As other posters have stated, you have to take the rate that is the best for you at the time. Things are moving so fast that you could be easily be £000's better off or worse off in the matter of a day or so

Looks like you got a result there!!    A bit of nightmare really, I probably lost , gained a bit back, then lost a load more in about a 10 day period.  I am trying not to look at it right now, as you say its a few thousand quid each time there is a knee jerk somewhere - crazy times!!   Can't get too vexed about things outside of my direct control though.

Still for those still yet to get it sorted, I think this is as good as it's been for several months - so it may be a good time to get some funds secured if completion is imminent

On 3rd & 6th October the Euro was at a 6 month high, it has dropped back since. Even today we have seen swings between 1.2875 and 1.2775.

Doesnt sound a lot but its £600 on €100k and that is just in a day
