Hi,

My husband and his brother would like to play golf during our next stay in our HR apartment but neither of them have a handicap certificate as they play municipal courses here.  Joining a golf club is not really a justifiable expense for them as they just don't have time to play enough to reap the benefit from full membership and local clubs are really quite expensive and many seem to have waiting lists.  It's really annoying that they are unlikely to be allowed to play on HR but does anyone know of any other courses that they might be able to play that are not too far away from HR?  They will probably rent clubs as we don't want to pay for them to take them across if they cannot find anywhere that will allow them to play.

Anyone know if they have golf lessons at HR as I am thinking of taking it up myself and it seems a good place to start.

Thanks

Hi polly,  This shouldnt be a problem, i have just returned from HR and played twice without showing proof of handicap. they just said ok bring it next time. There is a sign up in the pro shop now saying minimum handicap is 36. I think that just about covers anyone who can hit a golf ball!!

I've just returned from HR and played golf with my father. I did have my certificate but my father didn't. They asked for it but still let him play without it.

A simple trick I've used in the past for golfers who aren't club members is to produce my own handicap certificate in the same format as a club certificate.
This is particularly useful for society golfers and it's worked across Spain and Portugal.

I would say however that the HR golf course is quite difficult (I'm off 7) and the handicap restrictions should apply regardless of how you obtain a certificate.
If you can't shoot around 100 then avoid playing until you have improved.

Another low cost way of obtaining a handicap certificate is through the Golf Club of Great Britain. For a small annual subscription they will issue a handicap certificate providing you submit 3 signed score cards.

Can't embed the web link but just google Golf Club of Great Britain

Like you I just don't have the time to play golf regularly at home but hope to at HR!

Darren

All,

Thank you for your reassuring comments - the guys are delighted that they should be able to play a round or two on HR.  I have charged up the video camera to capture the moment they pass by I am sure I can get a good view of them from my lounger.

Regards

Pauline

Just returned from a 3 week stay and played on LT, Elle Valle and 4 other off site courses in the area, never asked to produce a certificate on any. Worth going to other courses ask for deals when booking, some offering 30 euros
