Gibraltar from Spain
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 @ 4:49 AM

Here, I want to show you an unusual image: a plane preparing to land.Sometimes, planes land over the front of Gibraltar --like in this picture--; but, usualy, they land over the back of the Rock the reason use to be the bad weather, the wind--.

"A plane flying over Gibraltar", by Luis Lopez-Cortijo

This is the plane, that is flying to the Airport of Gibraltar (on the left side of the picture). Here you can not see any cloud ("Montera") on the top pf Gibraltar, perhaps because the wind changed to Poniente. Here, in this area, the wind is abble to change several times, in a day.

"La montera de Gibraltar", by Luis Lopez-Cortijo

This is another view of Gibraltar --althought it happened the same day--.In this picture, you can see the typical "Montera = Cap", that you can see, over Gibraltar, when the wind is named "Levante".It does not matter if the weather is cloudy or clear --like this day--, because the  "Montera" (a solitary cloud) shall be there --well..., when the weather is cloudy, that special cloud (Montera) shall be mixed with the rest; but...it shall be there--.Then, I can tell you that: when the wind comes from Levante, the planes use to land from the front of Gibraltar and, ehwn the wind comes from Poniente, the planes use to land from the back of the Rock.

Best regards,

Luis

Hi Luis

Great pictures. It is fascinating about the Montera on top of Gibraltar. So quite often it must be cloudy in Gibraltar then.....?

In the top picture when the plane was coming in to land at Gibraltar airport I see that the Montera is not there - maybe that was a special sunny day in Gibraltar!

Are these pictures taken from the port in Algeciras looking across Algeciras Bay?

Kind regards

Keith

Hello, Keith: Sorry for not having answered before.About helicopter, I can tell you that the pictures were taken from close the port, but not inside.
Looking at the plane, that is going to land at Gibraltar airport, I remember when I went to London from it.What a nice experience......
I know that a short time ago you have met to María and I hope that you have been found that she is a very hardworking person, a very honest person and a very simple and humble person. At least, I am learning of these qualities, each day.
Kind regards,
Luis
