A Spanish life expectancy
Thursday, June 3, 2010 @ 6:22 AM

Yesterday, wenesday  June - 2, it was "The National Day Organ Donor" and I want to take this opportunity in order to tell you that, last tuesday (June - 1) I could listen, through the Spanish National Radio, to a very young girl (2 years old)´s father, who explained the situation of his daughter. He said that his daughter (Lucía) was suffering from Leukemia; the disease was diagnosed two months ago. Then, Lucía ´s  parents brought her, first of all, to their family doctor and, after, to the General Hospital of Alicante --where Lucía was subjected to treatment with chemotherapy; but she has not responded well to treatment--.

Then, Lucía´s parents have tried to be operated Lucía of marrow transplant; but, the marrows of her brothers were not compatible with that of Lucía; nor do their parents. Therefore, her parents sought help outside the family. So, the Director of the School "Padre Dehon", in Novelda (Alicante), --where Lucía ´s brothers are studying and Lucía was going to enter next year--, is conducting a recruitment campign of potential donors of bone marrow.Till today, they got 50 donors and others 20 donors are waiting for the next tests. If you want to receive further information about how to help, please visit the website:                          http://www.unamedulaparalucia.com/

Lucía´s parents said that, in Spain is necessary to increase the number of organ donors --although Spain is the first country in the world in organ donation--.Some years ago, I could speak, by phone, --in relation with the case of another child, who also needed a tratment of marrow--, with a Doctor, from the "Foundation Carreras" --which operates marrow transplants, in Spain; it is in Barcelona--, and he told me that, "outside the family of the pacient, the probability of success is 1 in 50.000 donors".But, anyway, I think that he have to try it; because a child´s life is worth much more than our comfort.

We have time till next September; let us Lucía living with the same dignity as any other spanish child, which is healthy.

If you want to be a donor, you may phone to the telephone number:  91 314 24 06  or visit the website: www.ont.es

Thank you very much and best regards,

Luis
