Funny Old Weather
Sunday, June 30, 2013 @ 2:41 PM

The weather this year around the world seems a tad strange, no more so than in Spain. Most years in around mid May time the curtain rises on a hot and cloudless blue sky and nothing much changes from that until early October. Not this year though. The other night my lady actually put the electric blanket on on her side of the bed! The scientists reckon that it's the Jet Stream, which has drifted further south than is normal, that is to blame, and some even say it may take up to ten years for it to position itself back to its normal position to the North of the British Isles. Time will tell.

Here in Spain we have two young ladies staying here with us. My granddaughter and her friend. They went out for a quiet drink a couple of evenings ago around ten o'clock and got back home at six am!!! Apparently it's the norm now that clothes aren't hung up in wardrobes anymore, they are just dropped onto the floor and left. Similarly fizzy drinks are poured out of bottles, and then an hour later the cry goes up, "The fizzy drink in that bottle isn't fizzy! And it's not cold at all either"........replacing the tops might solve the problem, and them putting the bottles back into the drinks fridge might also help.....

Our garden is now sprouting flowers we never knew existed, they are called cups, glasses, empty crisp packets, and ice cream wrappers.....oh and wet towels.

At two am this morning I got up to get a drink of water and found the main TV on, all the lounge and terrace lights on, and the food fridge door wide open. Two young ladies lay sleeping peacefully in their bedroom with the lights on and the second TV in their bedroom still on too......

Apparently its also far too difficult to even work out that crockery and cutlery CAN be put into the dishwasher. "Mum always does that" has been the stock response....My wife's got it right, "Just tick the days off, won't be long dear". I wonder what she means?????

It's amazing though how these same two young ladies can tell you EVERYTHING about mobile phones, and they never forget to keep them well charged up. I asked one of them who the President of the USA was, she didn't know. I gave her a clue, he's black. "Oh I know" she cried, "It's Denzil Washington!" I asked her who was the UK Prime Minister, her answer was, "Oh a guy with black hair, I forget his name but my friends all think he's a dick head!!"

She said she's no good at Maths but it doesn't matter, she's going to make sure that the man she marries is.

They say that the world is expanding, if that's the case why can I never find a parking space either in Norwich City centre, or anywhere near the beach on the Costa del Sol ???!!!

It's common here on the CDS now for Food Bank people to ask you to donate some foodstuff to poor people. We always do. We now spend an extra 10€ a week to do this. It sort of salves our conscience a little. makes me angry though, in a world with so much wealth that people, even in so called 'civilised' European countries, have to rely on charity to survive. I wonder if the multi millionaires and billionaires in this world attend churches or mosques each week and come out of there with a clean conscience? How many meals can rich people consume per day? How many houses can they inhabit each day? How many Bentleys can they drive at any one time? If there is a God, I wonder how many of the mega rich will he (or She) allow into heaven, given that they kept all their wealth whilst people around the world starved, and/or led miserable lives because they had the misfortune to live in a poor country, or became unemployed or sick?

I read a very old review of Agatha Christie's works last week, it read "Agatha Christie has given more pleasure in bed than any other woman."  The same reviewer remarked that "Good girls keep diaries", one assumes that bad girls never have the time...??

Apparently there is a new dictionary for masochists. It lists all the words of a normal dictionary, but not in alphabetical order.

I am on the last half of my third book in the trilogy, "The Saturday Pledge", 64,000 words, and about the same amount to go, maybe a little bit more. I start a scene then go off on a tangent, so my finished target of 125,000 words will probably be more like 150,000.

For any aspiring writer out there, the first act for you is to find another source of income....but remember a professional writer is someone who didn't quit. In a couple of months I will have my own publishing company and I will dedicate it to new writers, to give them a chance without ripping them off as some publishers sadly do.

Writing is easy, all you have to do is stare at a blank piece of paper until blood drips from your forehead.......Friends and family are not good critics of your book. Better to give it to an enemy for feedback, at least then you're getting your own back on him or her for something they did to you, that you didn't like!

It's funny but often true that a first novel often features the writer as the hero. Also, I could never get my head around how two people can write a book together. It's a bit like three people getting together to have a baby, surely one is superfluous?

My books are always dedicated to my brilliant and beautiful wife, she is a constant source of fantastic input, and comforts me when I am down. She also helps me to write this blog...........

Have a peaceful sunday (Placido Domingo).
