Hi,
I was thinking that it might be useful to have a Spanish language forum on Eye on Spain and thought I would voice it!

I thought it might be a help for people moving here and either having problems with legislation or learning Spanish and looking for some help. I know many people on here must be quite accomplished in Spanish, and especially in housing legislation etc!

Any other opinions?

Life

I do think it is a brilliant idea and the COSTALUZLAWYERS team, will be collaborating to that, we would welcome emails sent to our accounts to help with legal terms and  meaning of legal documents. That is becoming our... passion... to translate Spain and spanish legislation to English speaking people interested.

Please let us know!

Maria

What a great idea! It would also help us Brits to learn the language I would hope!

Fantastic idea - it would really help to learn useful Spanish phrases/terminology. if we were out for long periods of time we would take up classes but at the moment are visits are short & (for us) not nearly frequent enough. Eileen

There was a Spanish thread started a while back, here: http://www.eyeonspain.com/Secure/ForumPostsDesc.aspx?thread=980&dev=FB39&name=Learning%20Spanish

It sort of fizzled out. Lack of interest, perhaps?

With respect that thread was not very helpful to people who are trying to learn Spanish. Hopefully this new one will be designed to do so.

I didn't say I knew what it meant LOL.

Como estas is how are you? But looking at dictionary estado is state. So probably means what state are you in??  Depends how much vino you've had I suppose

estado is past participle of estar, to be, i.e has/have been. Has is 2nd person singular, so I think  it translates as "How have you been?" Just not sure whether you'd really ever use that form.  Even sounds a bit strange in English!

Hola, como estas Maria? Gracias. Now I need to know how to reply. Roberto, you are obviously a Spanish speaker, will we ever get to grips with the grammar? Eileen

Hola

total novice here totally lost with the  feminine and masculine bit never mind past and present but would really love to learn at the moment all we know is Hola Gracias and dos ceversa por favour ( not sure if i even spelt that right)  so think it would be a really good idea.

A vital phrase for me when away is this at the local internet cafe:

Uno demi hora internet por favor (half an hour's internet please). I get my 1/2 hour for 1€ with some giggles from the staff because of my pronunciation .

The daily greetings...

Good morning - Buenos dias
Good afternoon - Buenas tardes
Good night/ good evening - Buenas noches

Here in the south people often just say "buenas" which I seem to use all the time.
