A Spanish Winter

Published on 9/27/2013 in Holidays in Spain

Escape the grey skies of northern Europe and discover the wonders of the south.

Spain is famous for its long hot summers, where tourists from all over the world travel to the famous beaches and enjoy summer activities. But Spain also has a lot to offer during the winter months.

Have you ever imagined a place where you can ski in the mountains one minute then sunbath on the beach the next? Then make it a reality by visiting Malaga in Andalusia.

In this wonderful region, located in the southern part of Spain, you are able to experience mountain sports on one day and take part in water activities the next.

Nature enthusiasts, who have always dreamt of seeing the famous cherry blossoms in Japan, can choose a closer option in Spain. The beautiful almond blossoms trees are as majestic as their Japanese cousins and offer a great alternative.

At the end of January, beginning of February, the hills of Mallorca turn white. Covered by the pretty flowers of the almond trees, it's an exotic experience in the middle of winter.

The cold season also offers the opportunity to discover Spanish culture. The traditional nativity scenes of Spain are very famous and should be seen at least once in a lifetime.

Take part in the traditional New Year Eve celebrations by eating a grapes with each of the 12 chimes at midnight. They do this in the hopes of having a year of happiness and prosperity.

Discover the “Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos” on January 5th, during which the children enjoy a second Christmas. This is when the Three Kings (Three Wise Men) come to every villages, riding their camels and distributing candy to the kids.

A winter in Spain is a good vacation choice for everyone.  Active people can enjoy the wide choice of sporting activities. Culturally inclined tourists can find many interesting traditions during Christmas time, whilst nature lovers can explore the many wonders the area has to offer.

For travelling between cities, a good solution is to use the train. Take a look at the RENFE website, the “Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles”. There are also airlines which connect the big cities so have a look at the website of Iberia.
