I have the same problem - my local college advertises Spanish courses all the time, but when you book yourself onto one of them they get cancelled at the last minute due to lack of numbers - no wonder the British are so poor at learning languages.  I'm in the Southport area and have been teaching myself for 2 years now, but I need to go to the next level and actually converse with people and be able to ask questions.  It's really annoying.

There're a few free online courses. Here is one of them http://www.livemocha.com/

Hi all, or should that be Hola!

I've dabbled with almost every Spanish course there is and I have a few suggestions. First if you want to speak to a native speaker then get Skype downloaded(if you haven't already) and then go on The Mixxer(see link) and find "friends" who are looking to practice English. I used to speak with a doctor from Madrid and a teacher from Barcelona. This is the best if you want real feedback.

Of the online resources I find Coffee Break Spanish(Google it!) to be really good, free podcasts that last 20/30mins just right for a..coffee break! And the good old BBC have Mi Vida Loca which is good. I have found the best cd course to be Michel Thomas' 8 hour introductory course really good and the only one that helps you to make your own sentences rather than repeating "parrot fashion" what may or may not be what you want to say.

Here are a few links, good luck!

Tony.
