Deb and I are considering starting a small business at Condado providing buffets and home cooked meals etc to residents for parties or for people arriving from UK who can't be bothered to cook. We are both chefs and have lots of experience. Do you any of you have an opinion on this? Is it something you might use or think others might use? I'm not advertising here but doing some very basic market research. We hope to move to Spain permanently and think we could make a good living from this.

Am not sure PW would allow it though??  There is something somewhere about operating a business from your home.  Am sure they'd sell you a unit in Oasis!! Then again, they maybe want to keep all food sales for themselves.  Were you thinking of letting a unit or doing it from home?

Phil & Deb,

One of the bullet points PW used to advertise the Golf Suites was for a 5-star hotel type service including delivery of meals to residents and guests, so they may have an input.  Don't know how this pans out over the rest of the development, but good luck in your venture.

If there are restrictions on running a business from home how will that work for people who want to run a property management , taxi/shuttle service or key holding/ cleaning business from their apartment/villa? If they are able to do that even though Polaris offer that service it then follows that the meals delivery service should also be allowed I'd think. However in the UK there would be an issue about  preparing and selling food from your home without using catering facilities I believe licences and separate kitchen areas are required. How that fits with Spain I dont know, plus there's the neighbours who didnt know they were buying next to a food preparation outlet. Although they may find the service very convenient! I think you'd need to look at other Polaris resorts and see what sort of business's people run from their homes- I think it sounds a good idea certainly for that first day of arriving with few resources available.

Folks - the easiest way around this, and speaking from experience, is that you advertise NOTHING with your Polaris address on it.  Polaris will never know and will not bother you.  There are lots of PO Box type offerings around that you can have your business mail delivered to.

On the buisness suggested, I know someone started it on La Torre but I'm not sure it did too well.

 Hi Phil & Deb,

I think you would be struggling for space in the kitchens in the apartments at Condado. And I wouldn’t like to live next door if it was successful (what did you say your unit number is).

Probably wouldn’t wish to have catering to our home as if we eat in I like to cook for myself (But I am no chef)

Buffet delivery possible at the right price if we had a party but again not very likely.

However we love to eat out and getting in early with a good friendly bistro restaurant with reasonable prises would I thing do well? I don’t know what is available on the commercial side of the properties at PW or if you can rent premises or if you have to buy or what the restrictions are, but it may be worth an ask.

If this isn’t an option maybe finding a small rentable property suitable for turning into a catering facility or restaurant in a nearby village would be an cheaper option. But what do I know.

Regards

Phil

Absolutely agree - think on the Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares theme!  What we need is a great gourmet burger bar - home made burgers, various toppings, hand cut wedges or fries and sides coupled with lots of choice on the draught beer front.....

The units in Polaris are expensive but may be in Camposol or Mazarron!?

I think a welcome pack service/shopping service- thats more than juice, wine, teabags milk and sugar woud be really useful. I know Polaris offer a service that does shopping for you and you can order from home and its delivered after you arrive. No idea of cost though, but it'll probably be expensive given that they've got us all out in the country but close to their supermarket.

Hi all,

If anyone is interested, PW sold over 30,000 m2 of commercial space as of mid February in Oasis.  The chap I spoke to is Alberto Saenz.  When I last viewed details, units (locales) of 50m2 and above were available starting around 100,000 Euros.  This would be a long term investment as the community develops.  I understand La Torre has been slow on take-up, and is still on the quiet side.

When we spoke to Polaris they told us that all food and drink outlets in the Oasis will be run by them.

All the town centres inside the resorts, including La Torre, are run by Polaris also.

Thanks very much for the response!! Must admit we hadn't considered the neighbours getting the hump LOL.Yes we had considered the Oasis option but then we saw the prices........ Starbucks we are not.

We'll take the advice on board though.

Cheers
Phil
