Hiya

I have just had a load of hassle to contend with as I originally had my NIE colection booked for 17th June with completion on the 18th.  This is fine if your mortgage is with CAM but NOT if it's with many other lenders as they require a minimum of 48 hours (or more) between getting your NIE number and completion (to get the paperwork done).  I had originally intended to go with CAM but got fed up (and stressed out) waiting for them to get back to me so went with an agent and am now with Bancaja.  PW have, thankfully, agreed to do the completion on the 19th now but had they not, I would have had to re-arrange hols from work/lfights etc, etc.  Hope this post helps other avoid this wee pitfall.

Hi ajw

Some good info there, I am still waiting on CAM with approval but its obvious on the forum that many are not with CAM and it seems like one pitfall after another just recently.... I think that many will have to contact their Banks and PW to ensure that dates dont have to moved, sometimes it seems we are getting nowhere fast, what would we do without this forum ???

Thanks for info ajw and keep smiling we are almost there

Carol

Hi all,
We went to Manchester to the Spanish embassy to get our NIE numbers which we did when we first purchased our property, this can also be done in London and I think in Scotland and/or Ireland. Don't know whether this an idea for anyone struggling to get sorted.
Regards
Mandy

I tried Edinburgh when I realised I may have a problem but that was going to take 3 months as they 'send the application to Madrid' first (by pigeon apparently??!!)

Please can someone give me some advise on getting my NIE. I received my application from PW who said that they would take care of things if I sent the completed form back to them, which I did. I was advised that it can then be collected in Murcia when I "complete" but reading the thread, things could get delayed if my mortgage isn't with the right company.

How long does it usually take to process and can it be picked up at any time as I'm on holiday nearby in August. Also, is there any way it can be posted back to me or does it need to be physically collected.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Phil

Am not sure if your solicitor can collect it via power of attorney but I do think you have to sign personally???  I think that it is probably a good idea to try to get your NIE on, say, a Monday and aim for completion on a Thurs or Fri just to be on the safe side.

we are in Dublin and applied through the embassy here - took 10 weeks and they posted the numbers straight to us - did not cost us a penny either.   well impressed, was always a worry and had heard horror stories about getting these

we got our solicitor to get ours, we just posted her over the completed forms they e-mailed us and we had our numbers a couple of weeks later, might be better talking to your solicitor

I'm a bit confused about what's going on with these NIE numbers - I can understand how some have got theirs through the Spanish embassy in this country. We decided to go through Polaris for our applications as it was cheaper than a solicitor. We had the same application forms and had to send I.D. etc.. But, we still have to be there in person to sign for the actual number. It would have been the same through our solicitor. Just to make sure, we emailed PW and got the reply that "An appointment will be made close to completion and we will be taken by a PW rep to Murcia. It all happens 1 or 2 days before completion. So you don't have to arrange separate dates to collect them". So I don't understand how Mark and Kevin on another post say they have their numbers without going to collect them? If we could have got them that way it may have been better, as we could then appoint a POA if we need to and wouldn't have to go out just to pick up NIE numbers

Hi Cuz

We are in Dublin so went to the consultate here, but think it would be the same as going to the Embassy in the UK - we just filled in the forms our solicitors sent us from Spain and a nice lady called Rosa in the Consultate took the forms (did not even cost us anything) and said that she would post them out to us in 10 - 12 weeks.  True to her word she did!

Cannot believe how easy it all was as had heard dreadful stories about hanging around waiting in dusty rooms for hours to get form signed!

Hope you get sorted soon

Hi happybuyer - Thanks for the reply but, am I right in thinking, you still had to attend personally at your consulate in Ireland? What I don't understand is how some have got theirs without attending at all. We have already put our application in with PW so are happy to go that way now, but I'm just concerned that others may be able to save themselves an unnecessary trip.

We did appear in person, but not sure if we could just have posted all documentation to them.  Imagine if you dont live near the Consultate you would be able to.  We only had a 15 minute drive but if we lived in Donegal or Galway cant imagine we would have to appear in person.

Hi,
I can confirm that my Spanish solicitor e-mailed us some forms which we returned and he applied for our NIE Numbers. He then e-mailed us copies of the documents with the numbers on them. Took about 2 - 3 weeks in total and, as far as I'm aware, he didn't charge (no doubt I'll find out later !)... We didn't have to go anywhere !

Guys

Since my last posting on this query last wek, I have since sent my forms back to PW who have aknowleged receipt. As I'm on holiday in August I asked if we could arrange collection then as being on Los Naranjos I didn't want to wait until then. PW agree that they would drive us to Murcia to collect whilst there. At least I'll have them sooner than later which will be one less worry nearer the time.

We got our NIEs through the consolate in Manchester, took about 6 weeks and was free. Yes you have to go there in person so they can witness you signing the form.  I tried to do the wifes for her but they would not accpet it - you have to be there.

Your solicitor can get them on your behalf if you send them the completed forms, but my understanding was that they would have to have POA to do this,  but then again would the police check?  Perhaps requesting POA is just a nice way for the solicitors to charge you?  Kev, did you give POA?

Phil,
No I didn't have to give POA. If anyone is interested in more detail send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll forward the forms and details I had to complete to get the NIE.

The arrangements made by PW for collection of the NIE numbers was fantastic.  We arrived at their Head Office for 9.30 am on Monday morning and were taken in a mini bus with six others to Murcia.  This was a great opportunity to meet some of our future neighbours and we all had a good old natter on the drive to Murcia.

When we arrived at the Foreign Officer, the PW driver suggested that we go to a small cafe bar just a few doors away and he would take all the documents into the Foreign Office for them to deal with.  Again we sat and had a good chat for about 45 minutes or so before the PW guy came back and told us that everything was ready for us to collect.  We walked back to the Foreign Office, straight to the front of the queue and just showed our passports to the officials who then handed our NIE document to us!!

We were then taken back to PW Head Office where we were met by our Parador rep - he took us to CAM Bank and then to Condado to deal with the snagging.

It was actually a very pleasant morning.  The only slight hitch in the arrangements was that we didn't arrive back at PW Head Office until about 11.30 am and our first snagging appointment was at 12.00 noon.  As the banks are only open in the morning, we had to fit the bank in first which meant we couldn't make our appointment for 12.00.  Fortunately PW accommodated us later in the afternoon to do the snagging.

If you are going over to Spain anyway, the arrangements made by PW for obtaining NIE numbers make it a fairly simple and painless process - in fact it is a good chance to meet other buyers and put names to faces!

Debbie

Had you already completed the application forms for the NIE numbers which were sent to us weeks ago from PW and had to be returned in the UPS envelope??

Hi Jackie,

Yes we had completed the forms and sent them back to PW using the UPS service.  It was all really easy.

Hope your arrangements are going well.
