The safe came with three keys. One was brass and two were a silver alloy.

One of the alloy keys was broken and the other alloy key did not work !!!

Fortunately the brass key works just fine.

We also have two combination codes.  An emergency code (specific) and a factory default code 123456.

Both codes give a green light and a click sound but neither codes result in the unlocking of the safe.

I've very roughly translated the Spanish instructions and managed to change the default code.  But code note find any meaningful instruction on getting the code to work the lock by itself.

However all attempts to get the safe working with just the code have failed.

I asked the owner of a nearby apartment- who is a full time resident.  He believes that the safe can only be used with key and gave up trying to get it working with code alone.

Does anyone have the answer on how to get the safe to switch 'mode' to allow the combination entry to lock and unlock the safe without the use of the key, please?

Paul, I think you'll find that the safe can only be opened/locked with the key.  The brass key you mention is actually the master key and will unlock the safe without the code.  The silver keys are the keys that should ideally be used, with a code.

I don't think there is any way the safe could be opened by entering the code alone - the green light indicates that the safe is ready to be unlocked with the key.

Brass key is a master key , put this in a very safe place. Use for emergency opening. If you look carefully there is a very slight difference between the keys.

Silver keys are used with code, code or silver key alone cannot be used. Code can be changed to your own number.

If the batteries run down when the safe is locked a 9v PP3 can be held against the outer contacts so you can apply the code and open with key, then change the batteries whilethe safe is open.
