Via T Toll Cards

I am going out to LO on September the 11th, and I thought we  might turn our attention to the garden around the side and back of the apartment.  Has anyone any ideas on what they are going to do?  Which plants will be best etc?  We have been told you can plant certain plants directly into the ground - so we were thinking some cactus plants, and perhaps a palm tree at the front.

No experience at all of gardens in this climate so any ideas would be very welcome.

Suggest you take a wander around Los Gallardos and see what grows well in people's gardens and patios - there's plenty of evergreen shrubs that thrive in the local conditions as well as drought and heat-tolerant plants such as cacti. There's a really good (and very cheap) garden centre near Antas that should give you plenty of ideas (go east out of LG and along to the E15 and then come off 2 junctions later and turn right, go under a few flyovers/bridges and it's on your right. A few weeks ago they were selling all sorts of fruit trees for under €10 each !  You could plant an orchard for less than €100 !

I would warn against Palm Trees. If they take they grow quickly and every year you have to cut the dead bottom leaves off otherwise they look awful. After a few years you will be climbing up a ladder to do this.
