What is the process when you come to complete, where do you go, who is there and how long does it all take?

Hi there,

We've just completed last week and it was quite straight forward.

We went to the notary in Vera where the solicitor translated the important bits of the contract (such as not being able to change the outside of the apartment etc.). He then went through the conditions of the mortgage along with our bank manager who got me to sign the life insurance forms and then finally he went through my Spanish will before I signed this. You really need a will if you're taking out a Spanish mortgage.

While we were waiting to go in to see the notaria we met a lady from Key Mare who gave us the 'book' as they call it which contains lots of useful information about the electrics etc. as well as CD rom with the same sort of information and a list of contact numbers. There was also a snagging list to complete. The most important thing though was that she gave us the keys!

We (solicitor, bank manager, Key Mare rep and us) then went into the notaria's office and signed the contract and mortgage in in his presence. This part only took about 3 minutes!

All in all, we were there for about 1 hour although I'm told it can take a lot longer (up to 3 hours sometimes) depending on the number of people completing. You also need to go there if you're giving power of attorney so that means there can sometimes be even more people.

I hope this helps; it's worth the wait I promise!

Cheers.

Couldn't agree more hterag, it is well worth the wait and we can't wait till we get out there again in the middle of August.

I would echo the sentiments about completion except we were there two and a half hours due it being a Friday and it is was also re-mortgage day whre you also have to go to the notary and it appeared there were a lot of re-mortgages being done.

Good luck
