Hi everyone

Have now lived here for 5 days and loving it to bits.  Been in the pool every day, got a couple of favorite bars, weather been scorching, and thrilled to bits with my gorgeous apartment.  Just waiting now to meet some old and new friends fairly soon I hope.   Almoradi is in the middle of election fever, so there are loudspeaker vans everywhere. Shame I can´t understand what they´re saying!

Catch up with you soon.

Regards

Fliss.

Hi Fliss

We are really pleased you are settling in so well and i must say more than a little bit envious because that is where we want to be well only nine weeks to go and counting. Which bars have you discovered ,we havn.t been in that many but we have a couple of favourites ourselves in which we have enjoyed a drink or three with tom .One of our favourites is a spanish bar called tragos although they don.t have white wine and they tried to persuade me by plying me with it that red wine was better i didn.t agree the morning after but its all part of the fun.

Please keep posting Fliss because we are really interested in what day to day life is like in almoradi and that all is well for you and we really can.t wait to meet a now fully fledged almoradian.

Carol and Ken

Hi Carol and Ken - and anyone else who´s reading this.

I can´t wait for some of you to come out to the apartments; at the moment there´s just the young Spanish couple, with the little dog, but I haven´t seen them in the pool at all.  When the lights go out, there´s much screaming and shouting while the girl rushes outside to the pole which seems to be some sort of control box for the electrics, does something with it, and rushes in again.  June (my sister) and I spoke to her one day when she was exercising her little dog outside and although we couldn´t actually say anything because of the language difficulty, she seemed very friendly, and the dog is quite a character, rushes up barking, then takes fright and runs away, but I think it will be very sweet once it gets to know people.

We saw some other people in the flat next door to the communal room, left hand side looking from outside.  There were a couple, then a younger man, and later on Saturday, a couple of young lads, a very young child and a young girl, all in and out of the pool during the afternoon.  Haven´t seen them since, so don´t know if they´re living there, or just using it for weekends, or what.  As their English is as good as my Spanish, it´s very difficult to communicate.  They seemed friendly though, I´m glad to say.  This morning I heard what sounded like someone moving furniture around, so am hoping that maybe there will be somebody else to get to know.

The bars I´ve found are Cafe Roma and Que Pasa, next door to each other in the street that runs down opposite the square, both very nice, friendly and reasonable.  Que Pasa is run by an English couple, Den and Donna and they´re really friendly and helpful.  Most of the staff seem to be Scottish, so it´s just like being at home.

I haven´t been brave enough to try any new ones on my own; waiting for some of my fellow-occupants to join me for that.  We have enjoyed meals at the big Chinese restaurant though, that´s always lovely.  My shopping is a bit hit and miss.  Went to Mercadona for just a packet of spread on Friday and obviously got caught in the locals´ big shop, as it was packed and roasting!  Had a lovely time at the market on Saturday, bought some cut off jeans very cheap and lots of lovely fruit. Couldn´t believe how cheap that was.

The big news, if you don´t already know, is that there are more apartments due to be erected either in front of the villa, or between the villa and Igfama.  There´s a huge board up on the corner of the plot and there´ll be 1,2 and 3 bed apartments there.  I don´t know if I´m just terribly unobservant, but I didn´t notice it till I was taking some rubbish round to the bin yesterday evening, and I think June would have noticed it if it had been there before, although we tend to walk the back way to town, avoiding the main street.  I think it´ll be good for us, because hopefully we´ll get street lights and the area will certainly look better when it´s not just waste land.  Some of you will have been there since the roads have been made up on the town side of the building.  It´s beginning to look much more up-market already.

Well, enough from me I think.  I need to go back and have a dip in that lovely pool before having some lunch.

I do hope I´ll see some of you soon.   Please will people let me know when they´re coming, so I have something to look forward to.

Regards

Fliss x

Hi Fliss

First of all regarding the board on the corner it has been there for quite a while and initially there was a website advertising the property which has now disappeared and also when we were there once the plot had all been ckalked out as though they were getting ready to start work but nothing has happened since so maybe plans have been shelved and they have just left the board there.

We also pay a few visits to que pasa when we are there its a lovely bar and as you say den and donna are very friendly ,cafe roma was shut when we were there last it looked like it was being refurbished but we have been in on previous occasions and enjoyed a drink and a tapas.

The little dogs name is kuro we borrowed him for the afternoon when we were there in april and took him round the pool he had a whale of a time running around and he certainly made our afternoon fun he.s a little darling.Well i.m off for a dip now but only in the bath does,nt quite have the same appeal does it but never mind roll on july 24th.

Well, there you are. I told you I wasn´t very observant didn´t I?  So no building about to start just yet by the look of it.  I met two other delightful little dogs tonight, owned by a lady just down the road.  Have just eaten as Que Pasa, and Roma is open again now.  Was closed early last week but opened again by about Tuesday, so we had one lunch in there.  It looks much nicer now.  Will be brief as am in internet cafe again, and just on way home, well before it starts to get dark.

look forward to hearing more soon.

Regards

Fliss

Hi everyone

It´s me again, and I´m really dying for some company at Igfama.  Please let me know when anyone´s coming out.  I´ve met a couple from one of the blocks over to the right, Carol and Dave.  They said they´d met a couple from Igfama and I think maybe it was Erica and Walter.  They´ve been very kind and sort of taken me under their wing so to speak, helping me find my way around.

I´ve seen one or two people taking things out of cars and heard what sounds like furniture being moved around, but still haven´t met any more new people, oh I tell a lie, a man called Vincente is in 3J but doesn´t seem to have actually moved in yet.

I still have that wonderful pool to myself and while of course it´s lovely not to be fighting for space, it would be nice to have some company.  The water´s getting quite warm now, or maybe I´m just getting more used to it.  I really enjoy my daily swim or 2 or 3.

If anyone comes over, please come and knock on my door 3H and say´´hi´.  I´ll be really glad to see you.  Meanwhile, hope you´re all ok and that we can get together for a few beers soon.

Fliss x

hi Fliss

Diane here   sorry to here you are getting lonely but it must be great to be living out there Colin and I are both jealous of you living our dream.  We tried to get out there this bank holiday weekend but flights were so expensive,  we are however looking forward to coming out on 24 June for 2 weeks,  we will definately give you a knock to say hi.

When we last came out there was people in and out of apartment ground floor right hand side of pool  think they were spanish as well though.  how are you managing with the language barrier   I am trying to learn but find it difficult.  When we were last there the front door glass was smashed has it been fixed yet I think it is due to some people leaving it open and then perhaps wind blowing it shut,  there was also some sort of electric power cut   had interesting conversation with young spanish women on first floor but like i said language barrier is big issue.

Will see you soon and anyone else who is there at same time.

Diane   Colin

Hi Diane

Thanks for the reply.  I´ve seen some people in the apartment which is to the left of the pool, if you´re at the pool side of the block, but not the other side,  The glass is still broken in the front door, but like you, I think it may be due to it slamming in the wind.  I´ve noticed it open several times and always close it when I do.  I´ll look forward to meeting you in June.  My daughter is due to come out at the end of June as well, so it will be really good to have company.  I do realise how lucky I am to be living here now.  It has been very hot today, 30degrees, and I have been swimming twice, which is so lovely when it´s as hot as this.  There´s still no sign of any other permanent residents except the young Spanish couple with the little dog, and I hardly see them.  The electric has been very good recently, fingers crossed, so maybe the teething problems are getting sorted.  I hope so.  I´m not sure how the pool lights work, as I´ve never seen them on yet, although there are lovely jets of water which seem to be on a timer and spout water from the far end between about 1.30pm and 6.30pm.   Mostly the jets are underwater, but when the water in the pool evaporates, then they shoot out over the water.  Sorry, this is probably very boring, but there isn´t a lot else to tell you at the moment.  Apparently, today was voting day, so perhaps we shall have a rest from the constant assault of loudspeaker vans touring the town.  Meanwhile I´m counting my blessings and loving living in my beautiful apartment.

Look forward to meeting you soon.

Fliss.

Hi everyone, well, it´s still boiling here, been 30º most days, not sure today, as I only know the temp when I come into town and look at the display over the farmacia in the square.  But it´s 26º now and it´s after 8 at night, so you can imagine how hot it´s been today.  I´ve been in the pool 4 times to cool down, still have it to myself most of the time, looking forward to having some playmates to chat to and enjoy splashing around in the lovely cool water.  The water´s lovely, just a bit cold, but it´s so refreshing.  Went to some friends yesterday who have a much larger pool, and it´s also much more shallow than ours, and it was like a warmish bath, lovely, but not as refreshing on a really hot day.  Still nobody much about.  I think some people have moved in below me on the end, so that would be 2I I think, they´ve been terribly noisy, banging around till about 1.00am on Wed night and then last night woke me up at 2.00am banging about and didn´t settle till after 3.00, so I hope that´s not going to be their regular pattern.  The sound does travel while the building is so empty, and I´m sure it will be less noticeable when there are more bodies and furniture etc in the apartments.

Very much looking forward to meeting you Di and Colin, and you Ken and Carol, in the next couple of months, and I´ve got lots of visitors of my own coming from the end of this month, so it should be a very sociable time.

I think I´ve rambled on enough now, will chat properly over a beer very soon now.

Regards to everyone

Fliss x
