Money taken from bank, need to know what for

Hi, I have two lots of money taken from my back, around 170Euros. The heading says AYUNTAMIENTO DE ALHAMA DE MURCIA. I guess the ammounts refer to my apartments but can anyone advise exactly what it is for. It also refers about getting it refunded...?

It will be your local property taxes IBI which come out every year first week of June. I guess at some stage you must have set up a direct debit with them which I did a couple of years ago. Their offices are next door to Mileniun in Al Kasar where a nice helpful guy called Juan Jose can explain it all for you. Mine was €164.55 for a 3 bed in Jardins but yes changes each year.

The yearly Property Tax: "The Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles" (known as IBI) is fixed by the local authorities and Catastro, depending on both the value of the land and of the property itself.

Hi Phil,

That will be your IBI or SUMA tax payable to the Town Hall annually. Mine was  euros 173 for a penthouse, and is based upon the Valor Catastral (rateable value) of your property, just like Council tax in UK.  It pays for Town Hall run services over and above what we pay ML for.  You should only pay once per property I believe, and not per owner if you are joint, so you should ask your bank about the second payment.
