Ok, where do I start…I ask you read this blog as neutral as possible, I appreciate the subject is sensitive, but we all have opinion and I thought I ask the questions below, without any intended upset, so please don’t have a go at me.

We have been owners on Condado for a couple of years now, typically visiting 4-5 times a year, both in and out of season – we love our place, the site and it’s amazing to see both the social infrastructure and plantation maturing giving the whole place the life it needed.

Over the last 12 months, on each visit we have noticed more and more animal’s onsite. Lots of cats and some very big dogs, and when walking through the gardens with young children a large Alsatian, Boxer or Rottweiler aggressively barking at you, clearly not happy with you walking past whilst being held behind a fairly flimsy gate just does not seem safe to me. I’m sure the owners are trying to be as responsible as possible, my worry is as the number of people seeing having a large dog fine onsite (and that’s there prerogative – I’m not saying it isn’t) we are unfortunate to have an incident involving dogs that escape and either case mayhem, or even worse cause injury to a child or adult.

I’m also becoming frustrated at walking up to cats mess over our from garden area every morning whilst there – I’m just hoping these cats are owned, and not feral – if they are we have a big problem!

Additionally, and I’m sure this only points the finger at the minority, not majority you can’t but help notice the number of communal areas that are becoming “dog toilets” – again, I don’t think this will help anyone in the future.

Condado is up and coming, lots to look forward to with some great potential plans ahead, which may help owners recover losses, maximise on rental potential and enjoy the atmosphere that no doubt we all saw as part of the plans. All I’m asking is, should there be ground rules now that make it very clear on what is and isn’t acceptable regarding the responsibility of pets? If certain gardens become a mass with dogs / cats – the popularity is going to reduce.

Interested in anyone’s thoughts / experience?

Thanks

This has been raised before - usually after the summer madness season when the place is really busy and attracts some less desirable custom. I have said it before, CDA is no place for pets, leave them at home or if you choose to live full time, forget pets as the properties are too small for dogs certainly.

You are dead right, it will be only a matter of time before someone is harmed by an animal in some way or other and the AGM should take a vote on this issue urgently. I am sure Milenuin will not want to be held liable in any way for an incident that they failed to control in a public area. JF

Some of the cats are domestic but most are feral and are being fed by some people which attracts them in. Surprise surprise they are now breeding and increasing in numbers.

When we were there in  the summer their mess was all over the grass where the children play and worse in the sand in the play areas. I saw a communication that Milenium were deailing with it in September but not sure how sucessful this was. It needs to be dealt with or it will become a problem.

You have just lost my vote for President   - Rat Catcher maybe!!!  as all the cats have gone!!  since we had cats there are no reports of mice or rats on garden , although  people leaving  food next to little bins are a bigger problem encouraging rats

I'm more concerned about the humans and their behaviour than the behaviour of animals. At least animals do not poo in the pool, vomit all over the place when drunk, shout abuse, leave rubbish around and drive like nutters.

We've covered this topic before and animals cannot be banned and should not be as responsible owners do not cause problems. As you can tell I'm an animal lover and many owners bought on Condado so the whole family including the pets could have a break. You cannot tell people to leave their pets behind, you'll be asking them to leave their kids behind next as the apartments are too small for families. When some kids play in the gardens they cause a problem for the other residents by kicking footballs against hedges and breaking plants. They also leave toys out for you to trip over and enjoy screaming, but we have never asked for kids to be banned.  As far as I'm aware no-one has been injured by any animals on the resort so don't say what if that happened because it hasn't, and there are many benefits for having animals including keeping the rodent population down and providing extra security. I agree that we don't want to be overrun with animals, but we don't want to be overrun by badly behaved kids or irresponsible people either.

The answer is if you want a pet free resort then don't buy on here, can't wait to move over to Condado with my cats and dogs and see the reaction as my dogs are huge!!

Beebeetay, I am in favour of banning kids!

Especially the ones toting Lazer pens, buggers almost blind me!

Suddenly Condado is starting to appeal to me for the first time in 5 years!

Thanks everyone for your replies, both on here and via PM. Bee I don’t disagree with you entirely, but I think it’s important to keep things in perspective - you make some valid points and I'm sure all of us, as owners condone any inappropriate behaviour of any kind by residents or guests – but I equally  we don’t enjoy walking though the gardens to be barked viciously at by a dog, who’s clear intention is slightly more sinister than a child screaming as maybe it’s hungry, tired or  too hot .ECT….

Let’s try and keep the blog focused on the question……is CDA designed for full time Dogs / Cats?

Darren good to hear your witty comments again.

Mrblue - I have kept the blog focused with my comments, my comments are always totally focused.

Yes CDA is designed full time for pets as much as it is designed full time for people. The Spanish people tend to live in smaller houses than the Brits and many Spanish all over Spain have cats, dogs, birds etc and live in small apartments, it's the way of life over here and if you are not keen on that way of life then Spain is not the place for you.

How do you know that the dog's intentions are sinister what a silly comment, I think that the kids with the laser pens have more sinister intentions. There are several full time residents in Condado that have been here for several years who have pets who are part of their family and these are the very people who have worked hard to improve the resort so don't go upsetting the apple cart.

You are entitled to your comments as I am with my focused comments, but rather than stir up trouble report the culprits to the administrator if you have major concerns.

No more comments from me on this topic as this has already been covered in previous blogs but Darren please continue with your suggestions.

Bee

The resort and size of property are both suitable for dogs and cats providing the owners are responsible, do you think all dog and cat owners in the UK live in semi rural, 4/5 bedroom houses, Spain isn't the only hot country where dogs and cats live. Dogs and Cats are native to Spain. All I ask is please clear up after your pets.
