Seems that construction is almost completed, and it will open before the end of the year.

I have jsut read the article and it is certainly good news!    Th Spanish might be slow on somethings but if they want something all the stops are pulled out to get it done!!!

Still no news on which operators will be flying into Corvera, but still looking to be complete Spring 2012!

Great news about all the work, just wish we could find out which airlines will be flying in, and from which UK airports.

I read Jet2 have announced they will be flying into Corvera, but they didn't actually say exactly where from? Geoff

I would guess that most major airlines are waiting to see what the Easy Jets and Ryan Airs of this world decide to do first as both budget airlines already have a massive presence at Alicante and San Javier and any move could either free up space at the other two or push demand at Corvera (or both)

It seems like it could be very important as to who wins the elections in November, as the belief is that if PP wins, San Javier airport maybe handed back to the military and all routes into San Javier moved to Corvera. Either way it looks like Murcia is gonna become a destination that's gonna be marketed more heavily around Europe and the UK as a new holiday destination over the next few years wether we like it or not.
Which is a win/win situation as people who wish to rent out their property will be able to do so and people who might wanna sell and move somewhere else would find it easier to sell.
I read a while ago that Corvera was gonna be one of the biggest airports in Spain, does anyone know if this is the case, or has it been downsized because of financial situation? Geoff.

Hi Folks,

I think any investment/developement of this kind will always have a political input at some point.

Have to say I'm really pleased that this new airport does seem like it is going to actually open in the next 12 months. With the continuing gloomy outlook for the Euro Zone, I'm amazed that investors had the minerals to part with their money.

As geoff359 says, it seems like a win/win situation for us at CdA.

WW

Hi,

I am not surprised at the level of  investment, it makes complete sense to me.  Develop when labour, raw materials and everything else is cheap and then sit it out until everything skyrockets again and make a killing.  This recession wont last forever and these guys can see the vast fortunes to be made in the future.

It's been reported in Tumbit, a legal publication I think,  that the Director of Corvera Airport quit yesterday.

Also, to date no airline has yet committed to flying there after the opening in the Spring of next year.

Could be adding 2+2 and getting 5 as the answer here, but we flew home from CDA last night with Easyjet, and I was reading the city comments for Murcia, in their in-flight magazine. The author makes the point that the Spanish government is heavily backing the new international airport, and that passenger figures of 30 million are forecast by 2030.

I would suggest that Easyjet would not make these comments unless they have a vested interset in the airport concerned. Fingers crossed.

I must also add we had a briiliant 5 weeks out there, perfect weather, the place was buzzing [ both CDA and surrounding area ], great people and renewed optimism about the future of the area.

The next 12 months I think will see great enhancement of CDA, especially if Paramount start to build
