Hello everyone

We have just returned from another lovely break in La Canada. A thought struck us one still, warm, gorgeous evening while we were sitting on our terrace sipping a cool drink and enjoying the peace and quiet, only interrupted by the occasional voice, or a chirp from a bird and the steady hum of the crickets..... how would that change if the roundabout was actually to open?

Nightmare scenario:  countless cars, vans, lorries, motorbikes and mopeds speeding down our road using it as a cut through, with 'ladies of the night'  dotted here and there along it.  Danger from speeding traffic to the children using the new play areas (crossing from one to the other), dog walkers and pedestrians, not to mention the potential for accidents along the existing lower road which is narrow, to say the least.  Even if the traffic was keeping to the speed limit (unlikely) the noise would still be nasty.

If the roundabout HAS to open (and it looks like it will open one day) then maybe the lower road should be made impassable to all vehicles in order that the only traffic using our road is that of residents.  Inconvenient for us all (we would certainly miss it!), but a price worth paying for peace and safety?  In the meantime, enjoy the peace while you can!

Any thoughts?

As much as we want the roundabout it will become a cut through as we have seen in the past.  The fact that they bothered to place the barrier at the new roundabout site,  to stop traffic, might suggest that the other road could be blocked off. Or will it lead to the new golf course as suggested on the Bobele web site?  I'm sure somewhere it is all planned!!!  Time will tell.

In the mean time I've managed to get a fold up chair and sun shade for the 'significant one' so she's ready for the new roundabout!!

You are so right Roo!  About Mrs Significant as well!!!!

We have thought for a while now that the opening of the roundabout will bring problems with it.  We would be quite happy for it never to open or, if it does, then please close off the tarmac road.  As you say, it would be inconvenient either way but I think we have all got used to the drive now.

Perhaps this could be a subject for discussion at the next AGM??

With regards to discussion at the AGM -  I don't know how much say the community will have with the roundabout?  Possibly we could push for speed limits or traffic calming, think we are going to be stuck with the roundabout, especially after all the trouble the town hall appears to have gone to to buy the land!

Unless you were referring to the chair and sun shade?  Then perhaps 'the significant one' might have to share her spot, perhaps a rota?!! after all we aren't there all the time!!  This would allow her some time to relax / wash up / iron etc.............
