Thanks to Terry from Newcastle who has an apartment on Jardin 5, a coach party was organised to transport 50 stranded Brits from Condado back to England following the volcanic Ash episode. Although it took over two days to make the tiring journey home some of us would still be there well into next  week awaiting rescheduled flights.

The planning phase was started by a group of individuals in the Clover bar last weekend. Meetings then took place outside the Clover to make all the final arrangments. What a tremendous sense of community spirit. I for one made many friends, which I am sure is the case for many others.

This is testimony to the very strong sense of community spirit  that is evident on this forum when compared to others on EOS. Long may it continue.

Alison Faulkner ( on holiday with Liam and  Shelagh).

Hi Alison, we agree exactly with what you have said, the coach journey back didn't seem too bad apart from being a bit tiring. I think the worst part must have been the 9 hour stop over at Lloret De Mar, how many of us will be going back there again.

We were with Terry when he was talking about ways back and the only sensible way seemed to be the coach. With the UK government organizing the navy etc it didn't seem that the delays were about to end. Terry and his work colleague organised the coach and kept us all up to date with what was happening through out.

Everyone on the bus seemed to pull together. looking out for others and helping where they could. There were a great bunch of people, wish more could have got on at the start.

We have a great community out there and now we're home can't wait to get back out there and see everyone again.

Thanks also to Carol for helping people and the return of all the hire car keys.

Thanks Terry, even though you are a Geordie. Enjoy your promotion party this afternoon and we will take the 6 points off you next year.

Hi fellow coach trippers

We agree, a great spirit was shown in all those involved of which i'm sure will be a great talking point for many years to come.

Thanks Terry, if it hadn't been for the bus we'd still be there. I know that's not such a bad thing but home was definately calling!

Look forward to meeting up in July/August time

Sue, Meg, Joe and Harry

My back is still aching! Lloret de Mar! What a fabulous place that I shall be taking in again at some point!

As much as i appreciate Terry's efforts in arranging the bus the fact that as we docked at Dover my flight from Alicante had landed some 2 hours previously soured things a little! Can i hear a "Doh"!

Ham and Cheese baguette anyone?

Must put in a word for Lloret de Mar- my eldest son says its a fab place provided you are on a hen or stag do, he wont hear a word against it. He says had he known you all planned to stop there he could have given you a list of the best pubs and a really good chippy!  Despite all his positive words he dosnt think it was the best choice for an evening walking tour  or a late night stroll along the beach. He doubts you would see much of authentic Spain.

Given the huge confusion that was evident in the media I think you all did the best thing you could in the circumstances. People were being told their flight was back on the schedule  and when they arrived at the airports they weren't and had to go away again. A work colleague knows someone  who only got home yesterday evening from Spain (Sunday) and their original flight was Sunday 18th April- until Saturday evening they still though their next flight would be Tuesday(27th)
